See, this is right. You shouldn't care at all whether or not someone is gay, it shouldn't make a difference to your opinion of that person.

All that matters is that they're the same colour as you.

I hear ya. My mother is always telling me it's a phase & to date girls, but she just doesn't understand. One day, nothing will matter. One can dream.

I'm gay! =)

Some people may not care about people coming out, and they shouldn't really. But for the actual gay person, letting people know is a big deal. It also shows that they have come to accept it themselves, which can be very hard!

I was lucky as I was brought up in an environment where it wasn't looked down on, and I never felt the need to make a big deal, and was always comfortable in my own skin.

But yeah.

What Rcking is trying to say is that gays are not like aliens like most think, they are still humans. And being gay isn't anything that people should judge someone on, it dosn't involve you, so get over it.

Emoism however IS something to judge people on.

I'm gay, and quite comfy with it really.

I haven't told anyone i know IRL tho, because well, in a country filled with religious freaks and also people that aren't religious at all but are at the same time "disgusted" with anything gay, coming out would mean something like social suicide...

EDIT: Seems like I'm a day late... Well, better late than never, right?

I'm also gay. Been out for years.
I don't normally see it as relevant though, don't know why it needs a day?

I dont understand this at all. It seems to pressure those who are gay to come out yet, thats completely contradictory of the latest issues with gays and the suicides. All weve heard is "These kids were pressured and forced to come out due to taunting and teasing and because they couldnt do it on their own time, they had no where else to turn"

What do homosexuals want, a day they can all come out or to come out on their own? Im thoroughly confused and this seems rather hypocritical.

I know if I were, Id feel pressured to do it when everyone else was and not on my own time.

I think the day is more about, feeling safe to come out, noone's pressuring anyone.
And even then, i think its more about telling people you can feel safe comming out, whatever the day is

Did you know that the longest woodie is in America? They call it "The Beast". It was erected in 1979.

I find National Coming Out Day entertaining because all the conservative families around here spend the whole day on edge. They watch each other warily, as if at any moment someone they love might admit something and the very foundations of their belief system might give a loud CRACK and start crumbling away.

A co-worker of mine, who is gay and comes from a conservative family, told me a related story. His younger brother who still lives at home came into the living room, on National Coming Out Day, and told everyone to sit down he needed to tell them something. They all got very quiet and his parents went white as ghosts.

He stood in front of them and said, "Dad, I backed into a tree and dented the car."

Apparently they took the news very well and he didn't have to pay for it.
Be sure you're not looking in a mirror before you start pointing fingers.
