Nintendo and Samus Dominate Toy Test
GCN software tops NBC Today's picks for best games of the year.
November 21, 2002 - America's biggest toy test, NBC Today's Toy Test 2002, ranked several of Nintendo's GameCube titles in the top 20 best games of the year, and Metroid Prime and Super Mario Sunshine took the number-one and two spots respectively. Other titles to make the top 20 include Mario Party 4 at number-five, Star Fox Adventures at six, Star Wars: The Clone Wars at seven, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters at nine, and Super Monkey Ball 2 at 14.
The NBC Toy Test 2002, led by consumer specialist Herb Weisbaum, enabled thousands of kids a sneak peek at 73 major E and T-rated games across GameCube, Xbox, and PS2. More than 10,000 ratings were tallied during a two-week play test in Seattle.
"The rankings speak volumes about Nintendo's ability to place its finger on the pulse of every type of game fan when developing video games," said Peter MacDougall, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Nintendo of America. "This further illustrates that Nintendo's commitment to quality games is paying off."
