The "enviornment mapping" is actually just a very well done texture. They did the same thing on the booster bike to give the exaust pipe a chrome look to it. Very well done, but I can't wait till they actually implement it in NL 2.

No, it's a real env map. (a cube map I believe, but not sure, I just know NL 1.5/1.55 supports the env mapping) Have a closer look at it, as I've seen it warp around before. (on both the motorbikes and the unicoaster.)

Now as to NL 2, I think we'll see more env mapping on textured and colored surfaces, which openl GL 1.5 does not appear to support, yet I'm sure DirectX 9 does, it's in RCT3 for one thing. (except they didn't do it very well, as you'd see env maps all over the seats and stuff in wooden coaster cars.)

I think the new trains look sweet! This sounds like a very promising update so far, lets see what else Ole has up his sleeve...

I probably should've asked, "does anyone else think this is a weird way to start an update?" I'm not thinking negatively towards it, but I mean, look at what we've seen so far
-New floorless trains
-New eurofighter trains(which I think its safe to say, not too many are raving about)
-New water effect(ditto)
-New target view(ditto the ditto)

Its probly just me, but I think its a weird couple of things to start an update with. I'm tryin to be patient though, I mean this can't be all there is to it.

They got all the gerstlauers in rather than spending time making new coaster types, as it seems to take a good amount of time to model and texture those things. With the gerstlauer ones, they can just ask those guys, once they say yes, they put it in, it looks pretty simple. Perhaps that's why it seemed to be going strange. I wonder what they'll do with the unicoaster, maybe some of the code used for it can also be recycled for a 4D.

The Floorless cars are HOT.

That target view will rock too. Itll simulate standing in a park and watching a coaster more accuratly. Cant wait.

I think it'll be more like sort of a good blimp/helicopter view, like a movie a bit, since the camera probably won't be looking up the whole time. I wonder how the routes of the cam will be generated, and how it'll work with a bunch of 3ds's around.

huh? The camera position will be fixed and it will just rotate to follow the train....

At least thats what I understood from the explanation.

Blimp or Helicopter views would be from the air...did you not notice how that shot was from the ground?

However, I suppose we will probably be able to adjust the height and location and it will just stay locked on the train and hopefully we can adjust the zoom too.

I'm actually excited about the water effect, and the target view might be cool as well, it's something that I've tried just to do on my own, but can't do very well. New Europhyter.. I could have gotten by without them, but its a nice promotion for Gerstlauer and the park its going into (I forgot the name[lol])
Plus we haven't even seen half of the screens yet. They still have the Inverts, Sitdown, Standup, and the Shwarzkopfs to cover. Who knows, maybe we'll even see track connectors for some of those designs.... or maybe not. Either way I'm happy with what Im seeing so far.[:)]

These things look very cool in that 3D renderer... I'm pretty curious what the result will be in the NL-engine, cause this really is awesome! Thumbs up for the NL-development team.

Looks like NL's gonna get some seriosly lower fps after this update, the detail on those things is amazing!

I wouldn't worry about your FPS too much, cause those brakes and boosters won't be that detailed in the game.

Enjoy some 3D renders of the new floorless coaster style objects. Those pictures were created by our texturing artist Phyter within a 3D rendering software. I guess I do not have to mention explicitely that the objects will look worse in-game because of a the lack of high quality lighting and shadows used for the renders. The left picture shows a design concept for a hell themed coaster. The cartexture that will be in the game will be more universal instead.

It only says they won't look as good because the game dosen't have lighting that good, I expect the models will be what we see there. They look the same as the ones he posted at the start of the update, only they're textured now so I take it those are the ones he will be using in the final version.
