I thought I started a thread for this coaster, but I guess we just discussed it in my PTR thread.

Anyways, I started over, and am up to the air hill parallel to the lift. Right now I am spending time tweaking before I move on.

I decided to start this thread now so I can get some tips and pointers along the way...and YES, Jakizle *is* handbuilding a ride!

When I first saw this thread, I was thinking "Recreating NMR using elementary wouldn't work out so well", so I'm glad to see you'll be handbuilding this. From the screens you provided, it looks wonderful. The first drop looks dead on (though I haven't compared it to any pics). Not sure what you're planning to do with the supports, but if you want this to look completely realistic I would suggest re-spacing the supports so the boxes are 6x10ft. like on real CCIs (see this topic), instead of the massive 10x10ft. the autosupport generator uses.

I plan on doing a ton of custom supporting, as this ride definitely has a ton of it, with all of the stilts and such.

Just fyi, the ledgers and stuff on the drop is not final, just for screen purposes.

Wouldn't be that hard to do in elementary. The only thing that would give me trouble would be the first drop, but I have an idea of how to do that as well. You just have to know the right technique.

Jake, watch the exit of the turnaround, the straight drop doesn't look very circular to me.

Yeah, that drop still needs work, I just have the ride rotated right now to work on the lift side hills. I'll be editing it next before I move on.

It wouldn't feel like a real coaster with Elementary. Certain sections would be fine, but every coaster I've ridden built entirely using the Elementary feels too fake and lifeless. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy those rides, but all Elementary tracks feel pretty much the same to me. They just can't recreate the kind of transitions and little track oddities a handbuilt coaster can... and those touches are essential for a wooden coaster in NL to feel realistic.

Hand building woodies just doesn't work for me. Almost no one gets the style right, they make them much too flowing, they never realize that many turns have no leads at all. The entire ride just ends up feeling like one big transition, and the experience is really lifeless.

On that note you did wonderfully with that on your Wildcat coaster.

Yeeaaa I support the handbuilding. Its cool to see people switch it up every now and then.

Excited to see the ride when its done though, after all of your "I <3 NMR" talk im pretty curious to how the ride is.

Unfortunetly NL pacing doesn't allow me to run my recreation as fast as the ride ran when I visited Cliff's, but it's still pretty exciting.

If you didn't know already, I did ride NMR right after the tracks were greased, which might explain why I had such a great experience on the ride. I do know it still provides an excellent ride, but nothing can compare to how fast the train took the course that weekend...

YES! ty so much for recreating my favorite woody of all time!!! Cliffs is my home park and i just LOVE the rattler. Anyways, the track is dead on accurate. Cant wait to see more [:D]

Wow, it suits the ride better though. CCI has some awkward stuff that Elementary just wouldn't do justice.

Well in his defense, NMR does have a lot of shaping oddities that would require him to either EXTENSIVELY master the HSAK, and would probably have to use about a bajillion sections of HSAK track anyway, or he would need to know some extensive math.

I mean the first drop pulls out to an infinite radius, then goes into the turn with no lead. I mean that's just asking me to whip out a curve using the simple B&M drop function of HSAK with increased radius. Then after that just use bowfu_bowhat to make a circular hill with a constant turn radius, split that into a straight hill at the top, then just do the turnaround with another group of bowfus.

Some of you underestimate the abilities of elementary. Yes, it won't whip out a perfect B&M, but neither will handbuilding. A CCI creation isn't even really a challenge.

Is that why very few people have sucessfully made and released a perfectly realistic CCI? Even you with all your coastering skills, atleast from what I remember from that large Ghostrider style CCI, haven't really been too close to mastering the style.

I agree when you say it's easy...I actually think it's probably the easiest style to recreate in NL. However, I've never seen anyone upload a perfectly CCI design. Seen some good tries... McFly comes to mind with his generally well done layouts, plus there are some decent tooled ones I've seen out, but in general... needs improvement IMO. I think NMR is one of the tougher CCIs to recreate, but I'm sure Jakizle will do a good job with it.

It's definitely one of the strangest CCI's, and resembles more of GG design, which sorta makes sense...it was CCI's last ride before Hades anyways.

If you watch the POV (Jimmy, have you seen it?) I think it's pretty clear that there are some leadins...look at the transition before the unbanked turn into the tunnel turnaround and the transition into the helix for examples. I've seen many POV's of CCI coasters, and NMR is different from any of them as far as I can tell. There are many leadins all over the ride. It's never what I call "snappy."

Yeah, earlier CCI coasters were definitely simpler in design. NMR and some others close to its time are another story and they involve some extra little variations that really, could be done with HSAK, but not as "simply" as you think.

Yeah I wouldn't admit to having the style mastered, but I'm a lot better than I was when I made that ride December 05.

You obviously have however.

Smaller coasters don't feel as fast in NL. In fact, even if your recreation completes it's course faster than NMR does, it's going to feel slower no matter what. This is probably even more true with coasters like Cornball Express, which even if you made the recreation identical to the real coaster, its going to feel like a kiddy coaster in NL.

Piece of pie? lol. Even someone with an extreme knowledge of the Elementary such as dcs221 wouldn't be able to whip up a realistic CCI without putting in a good deal of effort.

Go ahead and watch the Boardwalk Bullet video, then come back and tell me how easy it would be to pull something like that off in NL... with OR without the Elementary.

I just watched TPR's onride vid, and I think that NMR can be made with Elementary. If you do you a few segments and move them up and down (while using the HSAK) I think the hardest turns could be made.

Did you get this bowfu from red, cause I do not have it, and I was looking for more Elementary formulas.
