Recently saw a video from Buzzfeed called Terrifying Facts About Theme Parks, and the comments are reaching the height of stupidity...

-I went on this wooden roller coaster one day with my brother. When we were on it, it was making weird sounds.. I was scared! Right when we got off the ride and other people got on, there was a loud bang. It was louder then lighting. My brother and I saw flames and the coaster car falling off the hill. Most people were killed instantly others died a week later. My family and I never go to theme parks anymore?????????
-There was a girl that I was close friends with... She went on a roller coaster with her little brother and the ride wasn't stable. The cart crashed and she was paralyzed for years.?????????
-My mom told me the story about how she saw a kid get his face split open by barbed gates by the swing ride. To this day they removed them but it still freaks me out.?????????
-Everytime my mom went to six flags someone died and she went to six flags 5 times. SUPER SCARY?????????
-my dad works at a theme park where he saw a woman go on a ride 7 times and she kept looking out and fell, her head was nearly detached from her body...she died?????????
-Did anyone hear the story that a mom had a divorce and she had two kids but very little money, but one day for the kids birthdays (twins) they got some money for a theme park visit, but when the mom went on a roller coaster alone while the kids were scared the mom fell off and died. I don't know what happened next just thought you should include this.?????????
-I have been to a carnival and I was completely afraid of hights. My sister decided to go on one of the rides really high and something snapped and she got terrible injury's. I also once went on my first rollercoaster and got injured by the sudden stop at the end. You went around like 7 times and then BOOM! it stopped and almost makes you throw up. I hate amusment parks. They are truly dangerous. Do not go on rides that you think could break easily. ?????????
-one of my friends when i was at vally fair in MN he said the wild thing a couple years back like fell of the tracks at the very top of the ride i was afraid of heights after that o_o?????????

Even though it happened a while ago, I was reading Facebook comments about the Colossus fire back in September, and everyone sounds 100% sure that the fire was intentional, and that it was an insurance scam.

My reaction...

Before I say this I need to stress that I have serious issues with being impatient.

People go to a park to turn off their brains and have fun. EVERYONE at a theme park is dumber than they normally are.

One of the news organizations reporting on the Coney Island Cyclone getting stuck said that 100 people were evacuated off the ride. Wow, they must have gotten some really long new trains for Cyclone.

I'm sure many of you have seen the YouTube video "Rollercoaster Tycoons", and while the video itself is cringe-worthy, the comments are even more so.

What's worse is the amount of likes this comment has.

There are plenty more of these comments in the actual video's comment section. :x

"You would have to be a genius like me to understand"

If he is such a genius he should know that there is no such thing as centrifugal force.

Actually, centrifugal drag force doesn't exist. Centrifugal force does exist, but it's often mixed up with centripetal force. Excellent article on the subject:

This is more easier to take in, I think. Understandable for kids too. Many scientific examples shown. :)

I'm just a junior high student and not Newton or Intamin but I know that while Centripretal forces exist, the probability of the train going back to the rails is not 100% - things like weight of riders and air resistance are factors in getting that to work, as well as Centrifrugal force. Even if those are the same, due to the nature of the mechanisms the chain lift speed can never be truly nanosecond-accurate absolute, nor how the motions of the riders interact with the train, et cetera ad infinitum, and so you cannot guarantee that the wheels (especially the upstop ones" land EXACTLY in the rails. Also, for something like that to work even without all the other forces considered the track ends have to be angled to actually DIRECT the train towards the other end - no matter what Centripretal forces are at work, vertical angle track ends shoot an object along it upward for obvious reasons, among them the first law of motion. (Sure the ones in the video are angled but I had to use an easier example)

Sorry it seemed so wrong I HAD to do this rant.

Don't worry, I felt like ranting too, I just decided against it . That stuff bugs me so much, I don't know why.
