Lucky that you even can go. Our family is nearly broke and is saving for collage and stuff so we're not paying the air fare. But there's an old friend I really miss who's in CA and we need money for the air fare to visit him. I have no idea where he is, but if he's near SFMM by any chance, we can all go there and ride X, haha. I have alot on my wish list.

Sorry for being a little off-topic. Anyways, I'm really pissed off by the removal of obliv as well, and I really want to ride it.

I live right by a train track that trains pass like 20 times a day or more. I'm only young and I can stand the noise. Also people live near there would be quite a distance from them and the ride. It must not be that loud. I'm quite upset about this because my dad has never gone on it before. He will be so sad!

What I ment to say was I hope that obivon isn'nt torn down becuse I have never been to alton towers I hope to go to that park sometime in the futere and I whould love to ride the obivon. Storm runner makes more noise than obivon so I don'nt know whay peple whould be comping of the noise it makes it is a B&M coaster and that is the only coaster like that in the world. As anyone been on obivon? Is it smoth ? I have a receation of alton towers in rct with the obivon and it looks like alot of fun [8D]If I ever go to alton towers I will get on the oblivon to see what the ride is like. I saw the ride on the travel channel and wached the coaster it looks like fun esple when you go under gornd and around in the hulxas.

not really all that cool...they look like they're made for those who puke easily...but if it was a choice of loosing a ride or keeping the ride modified with scream shields, I'll go with the scream shields.

I'd rather they relocate the ride than add those scream shields...

That scream shield is the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

First, they would keep the wind out of your face, which would be crap on a coaster, as the wind feeling makes half the ride. Second they would probably be full of gross spit and whatever, and if someone did happen to puke, well that would be disgusting.

Yea..I wasn't ever pleased with them either. I wasn't even thinkin about the wind when I thought of what was done to Maliboomer. When I first saw them I thought they were puke sheilds. I've talked to people who rode Maliboomer (SpaceShot that's shielded) and it fogged up on them and messed up their view.

If anyone has seen California Screamin and wondered what the tubes over the track were, those are also scream barriers. If the side of the track of oblivion that's facing the complainer's house was shielded with some sort of half tube, (Yes it would also look dumb) scream volume would be kept down, while still being able to feel the wind thru the other side. Just another suggestion...Other than that, the best solution is for those people to move out. They're stupid for moving next to a theme park anyway knowing that screaming and roaring of coasters is audible. I honestly would love hearing the screams and roaring coasters.

Bad news guys....Park is found guilty of noise, complainers get their way [:(]
http://news.scotsman.com/latest.cfm?id=3285582

You'd think they'd be used to it. Where I'm at, the public train system, which makes a loud roaring noise as it passes by, about a mile from my house, is clearly audible right down to the clanky sounds of the wheels hitting the joints on the tracks. No one in our area or those right under the tracks are complaining and those trains are loud.

I would love to see the people suing Alton Towers live in NYC for a week. With all the jackhammers, honking, trains, and sh** going on all night, the'll go NUTS!

That has to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Just as The Edge said, if you don't like the noises then move somewhere else. The houses next to Alton Towers should be reserved for season pass holders and major coaster enthusiasts...

.... Well, moving is more complicated than that, and the part about being reserved for season pass holders and coaster enthusiasts is absurd, but moving requires finding a house with in budget, selling your house, and the most difficult part..... the actual moving.
Back on to topic, but, I'm sure this park has been around for as long as some of the houses, and I'm sure its the people who have moved in within the last 5 years or sumtin who should be comlaining, and should have never moved there if they did not want to constantly hear that, but they always could sound proof there house, all in all, I'm sure Oblivion will still, hopefully without to much tampering, if they take any element away from what makes that ride great, I am sure it will be crap, because there is nothing much to it, so it has to use other elements to make it a good ride.

The fact that the judge said that the brake that the top of the drop causes more noise by making them scream is pure crap. come on, cant he think of something better than blaming it on the brakes? Anywho, I live right by sfgam, prolly 1 mile, 2 tops, and lemme tell ya, i can hear it sometimes, do i care: NO. I also went to my bro's friends house for some major paintballing. Well, he lives on the street over. We were watching (actually, it was just me) S:UF at the top of the lift hill. We could clearly hear them scream and see them. We didnt complain cuz we're not idiots.

This is some real good bull****, I say that they move, who cares if its difficult. I bet the complainers are some really fat and lazy people who barely leave their homes and just lay around and complain all day.

is moving "Sector X" to the other side of the park possible? that would sorta lessen the "noise" the ropers hear. also how about using a lot of that noise reducing stuff around the roper's house, that would also help, there are thousands of ways to reduce the noise heard by those stupid people, with out modifying Oblivion. why dosnt alton towers think of stuff like that???

ps- if oblivion isnt there when i go next year... those ropers... omg i would tourture them till they just kill them selves, that would be so sadisfying then burn thier bloody bodies and THOW THEM INTO OBLIVION[devilish]!!!!!

They couldnt move the rides without spending alot of money. I think they will fill the track with sand to reduce noise, but if they add the scream shields it totally destroys the ride. Sucky Alton Residents, I can think of lots of coaster enthusiasts that would love to hear the roar of Oblivion on a morning - great alarm clock! They said they live 100 yards from the main entrance and can hear Oblivion - I was 100 yards in front of the main entrance and to be honest - I couldnt hear Oblivion. I find it unbelievable that Oblivion in particular has caused so much fuss - If you dont visit X-Sector you would never even know the ride was there.

I didn't know those were scream shields, I thought that they were to keep people from spitting on the people down below, or from throwing up on them, Other than that, there is no purpose for Maliboomer to have it. And that would really ruin Oblivion.

Yup they are...California Screamin' has these tubes covering one side of the track, working as a 'scream barrier'. Maybe that could be a better idea for Oblivion rather than those Puke Shields...

And not all scream barriers have to look ugly...

Some fit with the coaster like Ghostrider's Scream Barrier.
