A few questions due to things I've encountered with my design:

1. How will G-Forces be measured? I've noticed a few points in my ride where the comb says they are within the official requirements but a specific car in the train (typically the back) reads a bit higher than the acceptable range.

2. Will round or square tunnels be used to test for clearance?

3. I've got 4 potential unique elements on my coaster and I'd like to make sure at least two would be accepted as unique elements. Do any of the following not qualify as a unique element?

To answer your questions:

1. G force measures will be measured in the actual simulation when riding.

2. Either is fine

3. All 3 are considered unique except the last one. I wouldn't consider high speed banked turns as unique as many RMC do have this type of quality.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks, that helps a lot. Looks like I need to tweak a couple spots to reduce forces, but other than that my layout should be good to go.

I'm not a participant this time, either, but I completely agree with you! :D

Erm. I was using the clearance envelope object... is this okay or no?

Yes of course it is! That's what the clearance will be measured for the entire track. I guess he was just talking about the tunnel clearance.

In NL1.x you had to use tunnels to "tunnel test" due to the lack of a clearance envelope. I presumed he was referring to this. I could be wrong though.

My only issue with when people test clearance is that in real life the majority of rides don't. The way I normally test is just to make sure that it's out of accidental reach, which is a smaller envelope then the nl2 one.

Are you suggesting that when rollercoaster designers design a ride they don't use a clearance envelope or that they do but the NL2 one is wrong?

there will be some flexibility in our using the clearance envelope to test. seeing as tunnels themselves sometimes intrude on the envelope despite being built in, there will be a certain degree of "touches", so to speak, that will be allowed. that being said, try to avoid these situations if possible, it's still rather easy to make near misses without running the risk of intruding on the envelope

Unique?

Which part are you asking about?[/quote]

I am talking about the step up to the 90-degree turn.

Clearance envelope? This is the first I've heard about that. I've been using the old-school tunnel test, but I guess I should give this one a try. Using the circular tunnels, my ride doesn't have any issues and the square tunnels just have one or two spots where corners clip each other, so it should pass the clearance test.

Scenery tab-> choose -> library -> demo objects -> clearance envelope

Place in near a train and run the simulator!

Thanks, I'll give this a try. I wasn't even aware NoLimits 2 had this feature, so it will help with this and other projects.

They do use check clreance using a similar envelope, but its not as strict as nl2's is. For example, a perfect arrow loop comes no where close to passing the clearance envelope test but in real life it is far enough away that you would have to put effort into hitting it. Millenium is another good example, there are several supports that are possible to hit, not just the one that got shaved off.

I am confused about the template. Why do the purple and yellow areas overlap? What do I do in this situation?

your question has been answered multiple times in this thread already.....no track can be placed in between the purple and the yellow, it must be below the purple, and above the yellow

no need to be sorry, it's what we're here for, but for future reference, if you have a question, i'd personally look through the topic first to see if it's been answered because i answered the same question in much more detail earlier, and that may be more useful than a half-assed answer when im groggy after having just woken up lol
