Six Flags Worlds Of Adventure - Aurora, Ohio.

The Park >>>>> -2
After a full day at Ohio's 3rd largest amusement park, I was ready to file a formal complaint to park management. Number one: EVERY SINGLE COASTER was only running one train. I ran up to X-flight, thinking that it was a short line. At Cedar Point, this line would have taken 2 minutes, but here it took over a half hour. This was the case on every single coaster in the park, except Serial Thriller and Batman. Still, this was the one thing that ruined my day. Number two: As you all know, when peeps are bored because queue lines aren't moving, they start to litter and vandalize. The park was filthy, and there were disturbing messages littering the walls of The Villian's ride line. I don't tolerate filth at all, and this was right down there next to Six Flags Great Adventure on the "disgusting" list. Number three: As with all Six Flags parks I have been to, this one continues the "expensive" reputation. The whole theme of this park is to rip the money out of your pockets. All of you are probably familiar with the Disney "Fastpass" system, the Cedar Point "Freeway" system, and all of those other things that reduce the wait time of coasters if you come back later. Well, SFWOA has that system... but it costs 14 DOLLARS FOR ONE PERSON!!!!!! My lunch was over 8 dollars, with nothing but a main course and a small drink. Also, the park had NO WATER FOUNTAINS!!!! The park expects you to pay 3 dollars for a 20 oz bottle of soda instead. Cheap? far from it. [stoning] Take that, you lousy bums.... Number four: No management staff work!!!! The staff all seemed to be half asleep. A group of kids jumped in front of me in line, right next to an officer, and he didn't even say anything. Once would have been fine, but then it happened on 3 other coasters as well. The ride operator on Superman: Ultimate Escape was talking to one of his friends on the phone while the loaded train sat idle in the station for over 1 minute. When the coaster returned to the station, I expected at least a "how was your ride?" over the loudspeaker, like at Cedar Point, but the operators just unloaded the trains and herded us out like a bunch of sheep. Do you get my point here? THIS PARK STINKS!!!!!! I'm never going back again, unless I get a free admission. Especially considering that they only have 1 or 2 good coasters. I even left a few hours early so that I could avoid giving them my hard-earned money, and ate at mcdonalds instead. After I drove around the parking lot for 10 minutes trying to find the stupid exit, of which there were no signs leading to. Goodbye, and good riddance.

Okay, now that I have done all of my complaining about the way the park is run, here's what is really important about this review... the COASTERS!!!

X-Flight - Flying Coaster - built by Vekoma in 2001 >>>>> low +3

fun, and a very cool experience. It doesn't really feel like you're flying on this one, but it is still a very fun ride. The loop was really great on this one, and it was fun none the less.

Mind Eraser - Boomerang - built by Vekoma in 1996 >>>>> high +1

Just another boomerang coaster. This is the rating I have given all of them, because of the uncomfortable harnesses and unnecessary head-banging.

Big Dipper - Classic Woodie - built by John Miller in 1926 >>>>> +3

ah, nothing like a classic woodie to calm your nerves after being aggrivated by the slow line. The ride has some great moments of airtime, a great classic feel, and a really fast, fun, rough-and-tumble layout. The turns aren't quite as hairy as some other classic coasters, but it still ranks very high in my opinion.

Double Loop - Steel Corkscrew - built by Arrow in 1977 >>>>> low +1

Besides a really fun first drop, this ride was just another pathetic late-70's Arrow coaster. The only one of these worth while in my opinion is the Loch Ness Monster. Most of the other ones just fall short of thrills.

The Villain - Wood Megacoaster - built by CCI in 2000 >>>>> high +4

This was one awesome ride! Everything was here... the speed, the drops, the turns, and lots of air! CCI certainly knows how to deliver massive thrills out of a woodie. I loved the trick track after the second hill, and this coaster climbed up to number 5 on my top 5 list, which I will share at the end of this review. This coaster is the only reason that I would really consider coming back to SFWOA. It is just one gorgeous piece of wooden wonder that really adds something special to SFWOA. Yet, I only saw 1 train running, and 1 train in the transfer track. I wondered, what happened to the other 2 trains?

Roadrunner Express - not rated

I didn't actually ride this kiddie coaster, but it was definitely somethin unusual to look at. Then again, have you ever seen 20 cars on one train? The coaster trains take up almost the entire lift hill and parts of the drop. It's kind of fun t watch.

Serial Thriller - Suspended looping coaster - built by Vekoma in 1998 >>>>> low +2

Just another Vekoma copycat SLC coaster that has appeared umpteen times at various parks. This is the same rating I give all of them, because they're fun, but have some roughness and harness problems to deal with.

Raging Wolf Bobs - Wooden - built by Curtis Summers & Charlie Dinn in 1988 >>>>> -3

The mystery of The Villain's missing trains was solved. Raging Wolf Bobs "stole" them, because all 3 of its own PTC trains were broken. If you ask me, this entire ride was broken. I didn't scream in terror, I screamed in pain! The ride was, plain and simply, the suckiest suck that ever sucked. There was no airtime at all, slow and boring turns, and a terribly slow layout that seemed to be 2000 feet too long. Not to mention the strange running rails, which were only about an inch wide, created the roughest wooden coaster I have ever been on. SFWOA should tear this ride out and build something that people will actually ride.

Batman: Knight Flight - Floorless - built by B&M in 2000 >>>>> low +4

A very fun B&M floorless that slightly edges out Medusa. The first drop of 157ft was absoluely wonderful, and there was some good hangtime on the loop. The other inversions were taken kind of slow, but I also liked the little pop of air coming out of the MCBR. This ride was good, but not superb. Still, it is worth riding several times.

Mr Hyde's Nasty Fall - freefall >>>>> 0

Here's where the difference between SFWOA and Cedar Point really showed through. cedar Point has an identical ride, Demon Drop. Nasty Fall had 2 4-passenger cars running. It was a bit inneficient, and there was a gigantic bump in the transfer section that really hurt because of the dismal maintenance. Demon Drop, however, had 6 cars running, and was actually a nice fun little thrill.

Superman: Ultimate Escape - Inverted Impulse - built by Intamin in 2000 >>>>> low +4

This ride would be below Wicked Twister in the ratings, but it gains some great originality points. The Launch is a little more intense, and the swaying towers look extremely unsettling. However, the real points are gained on the back tower, which holds the train at a dead stop on the second circuit. I love that hanging sensation, and it was a very fun surprise for me. Of course, the airtime was great, and I still love impulses.

2002 Park Awards:

#19 Wooden Roller Coaster (The Villain)

if you ever visit this park, be sure to restrain yourself in the money department, and RIDE THE VILLAIN! I also highly recomend Batman: Knight Flight and Superman: Ultimate Escape if you want some steel fun. Well, that's my review. I'll be writing a review on Wild Adventures in Valdosta, GA, Busch Gardens Tampa, and Islands Of Adventure, as soon as I get back to Florida. Well, that wraps up my coaster-riding season in Ohio. Till next time.
