It's extremely early days, but after a short little break I've picked up my mouse and keyboard and started on a new project.

This ride is my first semi-fantasy ride. I've always focused on realism, and seen my designs as more of a homage to real rides rather than exploring the "limits" of the program (irony?). I've always felt that flyers were hard to build, and as I like a bit of a challenge I've decided to take on this type. I say "semi" fantasy, as I will still be taking inspiration from real rides in terms of building techniques and layout theory but no company in particular, I also wish for the forces to start realistic and the supports and structure. I'll also be using an exaggerated terrain, it utilise a large island, with cliffs and hills and woodland to create an ultimate flying experience.

It may not please every taste, but I don't think my rides ever have. I've had these ideas in my head for a while and it's been fun exploring how they'll work as a whole. I'm not giving away details just yet, and I doubt I'll give much away till the release. But I'll keep you as updated as I can.

Music credit fail!

Your turn in the air really far away looks nice so far I guess, can't really see much.

Layout's coming along. I'm finding this "freestyle" designing abit hard to get to grips with. And there's a bump in the begining of the ride! Which is abit of an arse to sort out on NEwton without undoing what I already have. You can see in this screen, the world's first flying double-dip, the first drop and the cliff-side flyby. It may look odd, but the terrain is playing a big part.

Here is the the beginning of the flight.

Just a simulator update. The terrain is coming along nicely and I've started supporting. I'm still unsure how this ride will be received as, although I think I've achieved what I intended, it doesn't really translate to NL as well as I'd hoped. Then again, I've had those doubts with every one of my rides, so MEH =). Anyway onto some pictures.

Image
Here is the view from the bottom of the drop which swoops round the tallest part of the island. The terrain is due a little smoothing, but I do want it chunky, need to get that balance.

Image
From the pre-drop out of the lift hill. You can see the rest of the ride partially in the background down below. The large height difference is because flyers just EAT up speed like smarties. I figured in real life, if you wanna fly, you're wanna fly fast! It's partially due to the semi-short ride length, but I think people would feel it dragged if I put anything else.

Image
Here is the view from the exit of the pretzel loop. My crowd-pleaser and intensity punch in the ride. It's fit's snuggly between the main island a smaller one that the helix wraps round.

I'm currently working through some name ideas and colours, so watch this space.

No offense, but why would anyone go all the way to a deserted island just to ride a vekoma flier? lol
Boulder Dash was the only good roller coaster.

Announcing, Phoenix of the North.

Took a while to get a name with the right ring to it. May not be to everyone's tastes but I think it fits =). I've also extended the ride and added a finale with a bit more oomph.

Are you going to be doing any 3D's? Bit of fog/mist would do this wonders, and maybe a ruined castle theme. Place a few ruined walls here and there and a boat dock.

That sounds like a great idea.
I can't wait to see this coaster, looks unique and the setting is great!

Changed the logo, the first one just wasn't rubbing with me. This one works much better.

Don't worry I am working on the ride too...

Just a small update, I've not finalised colours yet. But supporting and terrain work is well underway. In this shot you can see the "flying-hill" (is it air-time if you're lying down..?) I put this in because I think it's something that's not used enough on flyers. Airtime lifts you off the restraint! so it technically makes you fly. I love the pops you get on Air, so I made this hill which holds it for longer!

I really hope you plan on building your own station building and making some scenery from that one comment back up this page a bit about castle bits.

The ride and island look awesome, so don't ruin it with lack of scenery or the shit-standard station.

The recent cold weather has brought along some heavy fog, but the station is still getting built.

Still not finished it yet but it's coming along.

I like the little island and stuff you've made. The centered loop and everything is very visually appealing. I like the black and dark blue track colors the most.

Sick station in the works along with the new colors. Might just be the fog, but this blue looks the best.

Almost done supporting, and finishing the cartextures. I think I'm going to go for the white track.

good call with all the colouring; it's looking really nice. Add a slight hint of grey with the rail colour though for authenticity.
Nice car texture, couple rocks in the foliage and that's a text-book pic.

Looks Very good Bob! I think you should make the track a little more grey amd the cars a more metalicy blue, almost like a grey blue. That would look really nice. Also, it would be cool if you added some Silver/grey flanges.
