aww crap. lol. Don't you need enough in your account to back buying a new lens? That's a good deal too. Im in a few week span where my funds arent exactly peaking, but I am paying off Credit Cards in huge chunks.

That's crappy timing. It would be interesting to compare to my standard 100mm.

I recently went on a trip to the East Coast and I got a new camera for my birthday, a Nikon CoolPix L120. It's pretty much the best Nikon you can get that's below an SLR.

Anyways, I tried taking some pictures, I think they turned out pretty good.

These are my best photos I have taken to date, however I found a free program (HP Photo Viewer) that came with my HP printer; the editing features make my photos just a thousand times better. I was thinking of getting a new camera, but that won't be the case for quite a while now. Most of them were available in my previous post in this topic several pages back, but in an edited version. There are however, a few new additions. The Dania Beach Hurricane onride photo was taken by permission from the park management (the manager actually was running the ride at the time and he said I could bring my cameras onride if I wanted; I didn't even ask.)

So, yeah, I'm spending $200 on ink and paper (mostly ink) to print all of these out and plaster them in my dorm room for my first year at college. I'm not happy about spending that much money, but it will only set back getting the target money for my GMT-6 trip by about two weeks, which won't make a difference since it's most likely that I won't get the money until November 2012 (IE, the trip would be July 2013 and not July 2012) anyway.

^After I bought my first cartridge, I realized that I could have done it at Walmart. But by then, printing 40 photos would cost $113.06, which the price for the remaining ink and paper would be about the same. So I decided to do it that way since I will be at least able to ensure use of a high quality paper. And besides, I already bought the cartridges, and I don't know where the receipts are. I'm going to do it this way. I'm not happy about it, because beforehand, I only bought something over $100 three separate times; once for a video camera, another time for my camera that I'm using for those photos, and my Xbox 360. I rarely spend large sums of money. In the future, I will look for better deals.

(I'm pretty proud of this one because it doesn't have that much editing aside from some fill light. I spent about 15 minutes clicking away messing with the exposure comp til I had it right).

I haven't even scratched the surface on my WI trip pics, will be more of these soon. Will give links to those sets when they're done. Btw, check out Zippin Pippin if you're in the area. It's seriously a very good ride, tons of airtime and very smooth.

Freddie, that landscape one had HDR written all over it...I can only imagine how stunning that would have looked! Seems HDR looks way better with longer lenses. I am now contemplating a 12-24 Sigma.

Ive gotten back into HDR, heres a few:

Windseeker HDR

Here's how I got this one:

3 photos of the tower BY itself. Just 3. I could have done 5 but the lights at the top were changing soon and I wanted to make sure all of them had the same color light. I then took a picture of the ride up in swing - just 1.

I processed the 3 photos through Photomatix Pro and then brought that into Photoshop. I then layered the the photo of the swings on top and changed the layer properties to lighten. Truthfully, I don't know what it did except it basically layered the two together perfectly.

Brought it back out of PS and into Lightroom since I prefer my controls there and finished my editing.

Voila, final product. HDR Windseeker. I think its pretty sweet.

Canon 10-22 or Tokina 11-16 are both better than the Sigma. Canon can be had for about $600 when it's refurbed. I want one eventually but right now I'm more interested in getting a Speedlite and maybe the 85 F1.8.

1/5-1/2, F8, iso100, +1 2/3rds-2, Tamron 17-50 with a circular polarizer, tripod/mirror lockup of course. I and my cam got SOAKED, yay for weather sealing.

Beauties. You should try to HDR some of those. I think youd get some impressive results.

Ill look at those 2 you listed. Im willing to pay 400-600 for a canon one if its an L Lens.

edit
I see that its not an L lens. Ill need to research it properly. I know I can trust the L's to have superb optics. Yes, the one I have has absolutely spoiled me and I wont buy and trade up really.

The Sigma I was looking at is from their "high end" line. It competes with the Canon L in the similar focal length. Sadly THAT Canon is like 1200 USED. Sorry, not paying that.

10-22 is EF-S. The widest Ls are the 14mm prime and the 16-35 (besides the effects stuff like the 8-15 fisheye and the TS-E lenses), since L are made for full frame.

The 10-22 and the 17-55 are both considered to be as good or better than some Ls.

I've tried HDR a couple times, but never have been able to make it work. Yours are also very tastefully done, but more often than not I'm not a fan of it.

Check out his stuff. Im learning a lot from him via his G+ account. Plus I might buy his tutorial/courses. Hes also not into HDR that, as he puts it, looks like its on drugs. He likes to make stuff that looks real or looks like we see it with the human eye since many photos cant do that with a single exposure.

Ill look at those lenses.

As was your post.

That's quite a difficult scene to get in one exposure and without filters...there is a lot of dynamic range there.

After tons of research the Canon 10-22 seems to offer up the best in terms of distortion, chromatic effects (virtually nil) and sharpness. I've seen em used for 650-700 and new are 850-900. Looks like a very, very good lens. Almost (and like you said, some people said on par) with the L Series lenses.

Might rent it first, seems rather cheap on most of the sites.

The Tokina is worth a look too. It gives up CA control but gains a stop of light (2.8) which can be useful indoors (a lot of urbex guys use this lens).

Yea. Except that 2.8 isnt very sharp, even in the dead center. You need to stop it up to a 4 or 5.6 to get the sharpness. Notice what Im obsessed with? lol. I typically tripod so needing the speed isnt always absolute.

My theory is that if its soft, nothing I can do to make it sharp. Artificial sharpening hardly looks good except in very small amounts. So if its sharp to begin with, I can do whatever I want or need from there.

I was really surprised how GOOD the Canon 10-22 is. The Tokina did peak my interest but some of the reviews I found (actually several) listed it as a specialist lens. And the things it did very well in I dont see myself using as much. Its still on my radar though, still shopping.

Some HDR/Wide Angle fun. Still working on finding the right angles for the wide angle lens. Definitely requires a lot more work on the photographers part to get the angles right.

I really wanted a shot of this theatre from the front but Ill need to stand in the far right lane which would be really easy to get hit by a car in. Ill have to go out there on a weekday late night when no one is on the road. Its a really busy road and on a Friday night its still busy at midnight. But itll look sweet if I can get it.
