Ok so, IYO, what is the best wooden rollercoaster on the planet. It could be for its classic status, its airtime moments or whatever you want. Although i never had the chance to ride it, i think Son of Beast looks great!
Hmm... from all woodies i've ridden, my top 10 (and the only 10 woodies i rode[lol]):
1. Stampida @ Port Aventura: I love all the lateral forces in combination with negatives and racing trains!
2. Tonnerre de Zeus @ parc Asterix: It's a big ride but awesome! Again the negatives and loads of laterals in this ride!
3. bandit @ movie park germany: I really like this ride, The insane ejectors and then again in comination again with lots of lats! And then also the amazing double down! Just insane!
4. Robin Hood @ walibi world: The seating is nice, also the restraints give a nice unsafe feeling, those ejectors in the back are insane too, but on this ride i'm really missing some good lats again.
5. Loup-Garou Weerwolf @ walibi Belgium: Haven't ridden in a while but i'd remeber it was really fun, nice airtime and really fun speed.
6. Anaconda @ walibi loraine: This is i'd still remember from a very long time ago. I really liked this one a while back, lot's of air it had. At least that's what i'd remember, need to return to the park sometime.
7. Sierra Tonante @ mirabilandia: It was fun, had lots of lats but missing the airtime. not even a floater came up...
8. Pegasus @ efteling: Haven't ridden a long time but it still looks ok. Only more negatives and lats and then it's ok [:)]
9. Tomahawk @ port aventura: well, it was nice, had only 1 nice boost of airtime but the rest was nothing special
10. Wild wild west @ warner bros movie world madrid: I hate it, it has speed but 0 laterals and 0 negative...
so now the quick list without critism:
1. Stampida @ PA
2. Tonnerre de Zeus @ PAx
3. bandit @ MPG
4. Robin Hood @ WW
5. Loup-Garou Weerwolf @ WB
6. Anaconda @ WL
7. Sierra Tonante @ MBLD
8. Pegasus @ EFT
9. Tomahawk @ PA
10. Wild wild west @ WBMWM
Well, RCCA has not made any coasters since the last one they made in 2002. Maybe the parks don't want them because of trouble with SoB. SoB aslo has Premier trains. Don't know if those affect the ride quality.
Coolbeans, incase you havent noticed i am descibing the best wooden rollercoaster as the woodie king, not myself. Just thought you might need some help reading !
5 is the grand total of wooden coasters i have ever been on. pretty odd considering other's responses so far...I NEED TO GET TO Holiday World!! *jumps out window onto horse* Yeeehaw!!! (k nvm)
Winning Tanks4me's Bronze Medal for Third Place is Jack Rabbit at the very little known park called Seabreeze.
Jack Rabbit is a very classic coaster. Some good floater air, a long tunnel at the end, and it's the oldest ride I ever went on (and it's the fourth oldest coaster in the world, being a ripe old age of 85) it takes the cake as most classic coaster and 3rd plze as most amazing.
Winning Tanks4me's Silver Medal from acheiving Second Place is Hercules at Dorney Park, rest his soul. Hercules was just so amazing, it was just so huge and was my first step into speed coasters (my definition of speed is 65mph and higher) and the turn on the lake was breath taking. It may have had very little airtime but the sheer size of it made up for it.
And, for the moment we have all been waiting for, the First Place Gold Medal winner of the tanks4me top 3 is Lightning Racer at Hershey Park!!!!!!
From my experience usually Woodies either have an amazing twisting layout or awesome airtime. Lightning Racer has both. For a woodie t an incredibly bumpy but painless ride. This is most likely one of GCII's best creations ever. The onyl drawback for the ride was putting the cameras on a bunny hop, because that really stinks when you are trying to do a pose but then you go over the bunny hop and all you get is a blur. Otherwise, that ride is perfect.
3: Blue Streak at Cedar Point. Has more airtime than MF, what else can I say. Ride in the second to last seat (back seat very very rough) and the airtime over the first drop is simply outstanding. A very fun woodie.
2: Jack Rabbit at Kennwood. There's only one good part to this coaster, the double dip. That's good enough to get it into the top 3 for me.
1:Thunderbolt at Kennywood. Fun in coaster form. The high lateral turns are pure fun and the rest of the ride isn't half bad either. My number one woodie.
I recommend Kennywood to anyone passing through the Westren PA area. It's a very uniqe experince that cannot be passed, and it's home to some great coasters.
