Solar Powered launch ?

I was just thinking . . . How cool would it be if some coaster had a Solar Powered launch. I mean it would be way cooler then hydralic and just as strong as an Air powered. And Intiman could use it on there newer desgins. But is this even possible ? ? ?

Not until solar power becomes cheaper, meaning until it's cheaper to harness the energy.

that's like trying to run a coaster off of wind power, It has to be bright enough first of all, It takes enormous amounts of power to launch a rocket and like jimmy said, very expensive to do :/

Are you implying that there will be numerous very large rechargeable battaries to run the coaster on a cloudy day?

yeah but how many times will that energy launch a coaster? If you have clouds for a few days at a time like sandusky, you'll eventually run out of power without a TON Of energy storage available, not something an average park can afford.

I meant my statement as something to poke holes in the solar powered idea. What about a nuclear powered coaster that use the heat of the radioactive metals to boil water to have a steam powered launch?

I doubt this would be feasible for most parks, but it would be a promising idea.

my most recent post was to coaster not you woodie :p Radiation is extremely espensive and risky, enviromentalists would go INSANE and stupid people would fear a mass explosion (considering nuclear fuels is extremely safe when handeled correctly) but it could be something for an Idea in the future, it would be a very good source of powerfull energy. And coaster, don't ask us is it possible then claim that it is anyway even though we answered you with logical answers, If you arn't going to learn, don't ask.

Fusion may bring new styles of coasters. One's that may still launch like today's but much faster. The massive amount of electricity that fusion could create would probably enable the immense speed.

Solar powered launch? What? I have solar lights outside, they charge up all day and last about 3-4 hours once it goes dark. For a rocket coaster you would get about one launch per day if your lucky. Unless you had solar powers which are several kilometres across

wind power requirements:

- Battery inside every train
- battery de-loader when train on launch block (so it gives power to the launch.
- Place a wind mill on every train, so the speed will make it rotate.
- every launch requires energy and every launch the wind mill creates energy of the high speeds...


Or else why not making power out of wheel rotating?
All wheels create power for the launch [:D]

Umm solar power is a type of energy, it wouldn't be capable of propelling a train. You need a method of propulsion and an energy source. The Solar power is just the energy source.

But to comment on the idea, it's not a bad idea, have a "solar" plant where the sunlight is constantly being stored and used at the same time. That way if the sun is not out you can use reserves, and then if the reserves run out just revert to electricity. But it does'nt sound that reliable and may be complicated to run.

what if you had a light shining onto a solar panal and the light is conected to the solar panal would the light stay on forever[confused]???[confused]

why would you do that? I'm sorry but thats just stupid lol you can just use that tons of money poured into a solar power on TOP of a immensly powerfull light + electric bill=more expensive than just using a cheaper rocket coaster. common sense....its a wonderfull thing

A solar powered launch would be just as (if not less)effiecient than having thousands of mice underneath the track running on a treadmill chasing a piece of cheese thats dangled in front of them, while the treadmill generates energy.

Solar energy can't be used to power the ride, but it could and should be used to help power systems at the ride location. TVs, lights, ect.

Well you could call me an "enviornmentalist" and you guys should go back and re-read what you guys said. i mean neuclear radiation energy to power a coster? BAAAAD! the radiation would expand through an avg. park and just that alone is horrible. verry cancerous to anyone close to the ride and letalone ON IT. and thats beside the fact that when you get rid of the radiation (it dosent last forever folks) it usaly gets buried. our planets in bad enough contdition as is all we need are coast that use this. (and by the by you guys have alot wrong about solar energy its alot more useful and powerful than you people think).

^I still say hamsters are the better way to go. They breed very fast and a park could start out with a couple hundred of them and in a few months they could have enough to run enough wheels to power several coasters.
