I've tried to open it up, but I can't. I'm trying to fix my neighbor's Dell W1700 lcd screen, and I'm positive the bulb is burnt out, but I cannot get the thing open to replace it. Anyone know how?

Usually anything that can be opened has screws or L-ing keys, if there is none of those then it must be a sealed unit. If there are screws but the thing still stays stuck they probably placed one behind a warranty sticker or there are one way clamps holding it.

I wouldn't actually try to open a LCD screen if I were you so maybe ask your neighbor if the warranty has already expired.

well yea you can replace the "bulb" or ccfl, its just very hard and I cannot get into the actual display itself to take it out. and I don't mean opening up the housing (I've gotten past that), I mean the panel containing the film and lamp and everything that is the actual display. Appearently Dell doesn't like people disassembling their stuff

anyway, the thing isn't even mine. I got it from a neighbor who offered it to me for free to see if I wanted to fix it. It's actually a nice display too. Its also a tv, supposedly it can get up to 1080i according to the spec page, even though that'd be pointless since its a 17" widescreen. the best I think I could get and have it look good is 720p... maybe

I might throw it out my 2nd story window and then empty a couple clips into it, maybe get a baseball bat and have my own office space.
