Joe Satriani, duh! If I Could Fly, is quite possibly the best song i have aever heard in my life. Other than Satch Mike McCready from Pearl Jam, some of his solos just work perfect with the song (Alive) Slash is also a pretty awesome guitarist again who writes the solos which fit perfectly with the song. David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) Comfortably Numb solo, voted best solo in the world. Allen Colins, Lynard Skynard. Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Clapton, Buddy Guy, Hendrix...i could go on

I have two - my favorite bass guitar player is Mark King, and my favorite electric/acoustic guitar player is Boon Gould. Both are from the group Level 42 which is also my favorite music group. [:D]

I'm a bassist, so i'm going to apply this to bass.

Victor Wooten, Jaco Pastorius, Steve Miller. I also know a couple of local guys who blow most band players out of the water.

Guitarists i'm not so sure about. Django Reinhart is well up there. I could reel of the names of all the big guitar heroes, but i really don't think they are the best (Stevie Ray Vaughn, Joey Satriani not included). It's the guys that sit and play at home all the time and get paid millions to play for people like britney spears and justin timberlake that you have to look out for.
