Anyone know how to copy a protected dvd to a vhs tape? I have an dvd/vhs dubber insignia IS-DVD 100121 but am confronted with you cannot copy this dvd because it is protected soo does anyone know a work around this? Before you jump to conclusions, these are DVD's that I purchased and wish to copy them to play them on a VCR, after all these dvd's were purchased as a gift for someone who is incapeable of using a dvd player. Thanks and I did search online but I cannot be arsed to pay $80+ for an object to do it.

theres a incription round the edge of the disc for the protection and the way to get rid of it isd to take a permenent marker and blackout the first line of the disc but beware if it goes any further you wreck the disc.

yeah...
you oughta be able to do it using an older vcr and the rf (coax ) cable. this way you'd be recording the equivelent of a television broadcast. newer vcrs are set up to react funny to dvd signals, but older ones, before 1998 or so should do just fine.
oh.. i just read your post again, any dual deck(ie dvd and vcr combo) will absolutely NOT do it, unless you do what gazag said ...
an old vcr costs like 20 dollars at the goodwill.

youll need a dvd player and a vhs player. play dvd, and hook that and dvd up to TV. press record on VCR. it should work, works on my system, but my tv is a tv/VCR combo so idk. it should work though if you have a dvd player, vcr, and a tv.

DVD Shrink can copy most all DVD's to your harddrive so you can "backup" your stuff. Its a completely legit program. From there, you could burn to a non-protected DVD and then play/convert using something else.

But I know I havent had a single issue yet backing up DVD's with DVD Shrink.

DVD Decrypter also is really good for making/backing up DVDS as we should say. I actually work in a DVD conversion lab and we use this program all the time. Basically, do as Real said...I usually use both DVD Shrink and Decrypter hand in hand when a DVD being ripped is too big to fit on a DVD-R.
