The crashability of windows is based soley on the user. As long as you are careful with your time on the internet and make sure to properly unistall stuff, defrag, and just clean up hard drive space on a regular basis Windows won't crash on you. A healthy reformating of windows is a pretty good practice to go through every few years. I reformated when I got a major upgrade for the whole system and boy am I happy.
The one obvious drawback of using Windows vs Mac is that people genrally like to write viruses and other malitious software for windows becuase they want to "stick it to the man, becuase Open Source is better" Which is sad but true.
Yes, but see you should not have to do all that, what average user, besides you and me does that? not many people, now on this site, probly most of us do, but we should not have to, see with macintoshs, you dont have to Defrag, Virus Scan, Spyware scan, or anything, they are free of all that crap. Also, no Virus has been succefully writen for a mac, they are pretty hard to crack, here's the evidence.

when macs become more widley use, I guarantee you'll have to start virus scanning.
