What would adding crashes really add to the game?

Answer is simple. Nothing.

Yes accidents happen in real life. Do they include the entire coaster falling over and disembodying its riders? Generally no.

The fact is if you want to turn No Limits into a roller coaster crash simulator, then you would have to go out and make your own game. From what I can tell, the NL physics engine is based soley off of the track and the train type. It simulates no other physics other than how a train, which is really just an object that runs at exactly one point on the track, reacts to a LIM, climbs a lift, enters a loop, and moves through a block which is occupied.

Its a moot point, they arn't going to invest the time, energy, and money into making something that has no real use other than fueling childish behavior that can easily be substituted for the carage of a modern shooter video game.

But NL should upgrade their engine anyways, it's bad enough that it doesn't support particle fx, and the detail balancing is horrible, why the crap are the vehicles so high detailed and a bunch of other stuff (particularly the catwalks, stations, and trees) so low in detail? This is only causing the majority of the lag for many of us who don't have geforce 6800's, and is even worst when we want water reflections. (of course, the water looks atrocious without them) These major problems ought to be dealt with first before thinking about simulation crashes, and as for coaster types, we've got enough, suspendeds and arrow hypers would just be nice, but are not necessities. (And don't get me started with the flyers and 4d's, if you're that desperate, there's always SM)

Meh, the more important aspect of it is having it support particles, so we could make our own and add them in, creating a new dimension in NL coaster creation.

What would be the point in crashes? It would add to the realism. But, what would be the use?

Yes, there needs to be a use. That's my opinion though.

The use is the particle engine. Have someone else program the crashes.

Would you care to enlighten on what exactly you mean when you say particle engine?
Becuase when I think of particle engines in gaming, I don't think of wide open spaces with dust flying around. I think of the Doom 3s and Half-life 2s that have smoke, sparks, and other particle effects aiding in explosions. Some games have it so you can see dust particles as the sun shines through an open window. Unless your talking about incorperating weather effects I don't see what a particle system would do.

Just for theming and stuff. But many of us can't find programs to create them anyways, making it a bit useless. (along with the crashes)
