Interesting SLC Transfer Track Fact

Ever since my front seat ride on Mind Eraser at SFEG and sitting on the final break run I've wondered something about SLC's. Why is there a piece of upside down track at the end of the final breaks? Well, today I finally did some research and I discovered that the piece of track on top is what allows trains to enter from a transfer track. It rotates around and the train comes off the transfer and into the station.

With this transfer track, some SLC's can run up to three trains. Pretty crazy on a coaster that's only about 2200 feet long.

Cant say i even noticed before. Last time i rode an SLC was about 3-4 years ago

Actually, I like that concept, instead of "sliding" track. Ill look for it 2morrow on mind eraser at SFNE

Oh yeah thats the same kind of thing on dual stations!

I noticed it on SMM2, it has this track that rolls over to both station tracks.

I hope one train doesn't decide to go when the track isn't flipped!

I think x-flight @ geauga lake does this aswell, I saw it in a video once, but I can't find it in any pictures and I can't remember where I got the video from. [sillyme]

I think people who have used Scream Machines will know all about this type of transfer track, as it is used for some of the track types with dual stations if I remember correctly.

Hmmm. I thought that the track was slid instead of rolled for SMM2. But I know for Big Thunder that it is slid.

I still can't see how they would run three trains on a SLC. Its too short a coaster to be efficient.

I also got a pair of solo front-seat rides on this one, and got to watch 'em take off the second train. As short as this ride is, they can run three trains on it! Interesting...the transfer track has a rotary switch, and once it is switched over, the advancing wheels in the station shoot the train backwards out of the station and onto the storage track. Neat!


That's the last paragraph for those too lazy to go there yourselves.

It could barely run 3 trains.

Remember, you need to have at least one more block than the number of trains on the track and if you want it to run smoothly youll need most likly 2 more blocks than trains.


On LImit the station is a block. The lift is a block. The first brakes are a block (connected to the main track) and the second brakes are a block. Thats only 4 blocks so 3 trains would be horribly inefficient.

In theory they can, but never will.

i'd remember el condor in older years (prototype slc). It had 3 trains total, yellow, blue and red. It was always 2 trains and the 3th in the storage. Since six flags came. The yellow train dissappeared. Probably six flags wanted to get rid of that train. Since that it only has 2 trains left.

They probably used it just so one could be taken off and the other be put on to maintain a 2 train operation at all times. I cant see them running all three...the stacking would be nuts.
