I have just been down Wicksteed Park watching the annual fireworks and witnessed the most horrific site i've ever seen. A huge firwork misfired into the crowd and exploded. I was standing about 20 ft from the blast and it was simply horrific. The show started out alright and about 5 minutes in, one firework miss fired and exploded about 10ft in the air, followed by another rocket that shot straight towards us and exploded about 4 rows on people in inside the crowd. It was absolute love mayhem. The front row consisted mainly of children which may the situation worse. Everyone just started running everywhere and a thick white smoke filled the whole area. I just stood there not beleiving what i saw and not to mention how close it was, i just ran in with some friends to try and help but there was about 40 people just lying on the floor. It was literaly a war seen, children where just lying on the floor whislt everyone was screaming and crying. I just cant describe what it was like, no doubt was it the most shocking thing i've ever seen. Abulances canflooding in about 5 minutes after and from what i could see, there was still about 10 people still lying on the floor. I will try to find more news if i can

That's very sad Edge. I hope nobody died, but it's hard to tell with large explosives like fireworks.

Jesus man, it's like one of those things that you see on those "Worlds most dangerous..." programs, you don't think it might actually happen to someone you know or anything like that.

As far i could tell most people where seriously burnt on the legs. The fireworks exploded on the ground luckily and not at head hieght. All i can remember seeing is looking down into the crowd where there was a huge green explosion followed by so much smoke. It was literaly pandomdium, Parents just picked up there children and just ran. People where running everywhere. My brother tells me that 12 people where taken away with serious injuries and i really am thankful i didnt go an extra 10 ft to get to ther barrier

As you say Gouldy, you never think anything like that would ever happen, i've been going every year since 1995 and nothing has ever happened like that. Also this year they has 2 safety barriers instead of just one they have usualy, and yet this is the sort of thing that happens. Also last year i was standing in literaly the exact same spot as the fireworks exploded with my 4 and 6 year old cousins

This is why I have a major problem with fireworks and bonfire night, you just can't guarantee that the fireworks are going to go off they way they are supposed to. Earlier this evening I saw some people walking down my street
with what can only be described as cruse missiles under there arms. You need a
licence to use a gun in this country yet you can buy fireworks with more explosives in them than a single bullet could ever have.

It is really stupid isnt it. Im not risking going out for the next few nights as the park nearby will have chavs on throwing fireworks at each other as a game. Its just stupid.

As far as I know, there where no serious injuries of death. My friends Dad who works at the hospital says the main injuries where cuts and burns mainly to the legs and thighs. 8 people where injured all in all

Wow, that is crazy! Something like that happened to me, too. I was at the park watching the fourth of July fireworks when the wind shifted toward where I was sitting. The smoke from the fireworks was so thick that I had to breathe through my shirt. Then a few minutes later I saw big flaming chunks of cardboard falling all around me. Everyone was putting out fires, screaming, and running away. I got hit with one of the pieces, but luckily it didn't hurt. When it first hit me, I didn't know what it was. Then it looked over behind me and saw the the smoldering piece of cardboard that had fallen onto me. It was really scary.[shocked]

They finaly announced it was a motar shell that exploded in the audience and not a roman candle from a Catherine wheel, which i could have told you anyway as roman candle do not explode, let alone with the force that this one did

Mr Lehmann, spokesman for the company, said last night's incident had been caused by a malfunctioning "shell".

The firework exploded but did not eject from the mortar tube in which it was encased.

Instead of shooting hundreds of feet into the air, it blew a hole in the tube.

The explosion had a "cascade effect", blowing unexploded shells out of other tubes nearby.

One of these stray mortars ignited and shot towards the crowd

Apparently one boy who is 10 year old, has been burnt literaly down to the bone due to the explosion
