this has probaly been asked before, but how do you creat underground tunnels? I made a tunnel with the tunnel maker and i want my track's tunel to go underground. Does anyone know how to do this or know where i can find a tutorial on doing so?
thanks, Jakizle

You make 3ds objects to simulate the ground. At the moment its not possible to dive through the terrian realisticly (i.e the terrian forming a tunnel around the track) so people just make the terrian in 3ds

wel i just built a regular tunnel with the tunnel maker, and i just put terrain around it. The enterance makes you go through the ground but the exit is clean. I think when i upload it ppl will know that you cant dive on NL, and im a beginner so i have no 3d skills at all

Actually if you look at the exit from not riding on the track you will see that you also need to pass through the ground there.

If its all you can do, go for it. I dont think that 3ds are needed for a great ride anyways.

or you can download lots of tracks with 3ds and find some fog or something and put it at the entrance to your tunnel so it doesn't look like you're really going thru ground
but of course you would have to credit the 3ds designer...

What I do is either use fog or black object in the tunnel to cover it up, you don't really need any 3ds skill at all to create that, just use anim8or or object creator. What I would do is use the tunnel maker for the track, then import the 3ds file in anim8or and place the fog in. Try to get a lot of that stuff in otherwise it looks very fake.

If you prefer the clean way of using 3ds, some prefer to use a small set of 3ds pieces to do it, but if you're making a good chunk of it underground and want to use 3ds for it, then convert the whole terrain and do some modeling with it I guess. But keep in mind you will need 3ds trees, and on the top of that, it is a huge pain to place them.

But the best for you is to probably just use a black object or the fog, or maybe just nothing at all. If you really want to learn about modeling, go ahead, it's up to you.

If you do the fog on your own, just make a square panel and make incriments of 10% so you end up with 10 different panels each with its own transparenceness. The insert them going from 10%-100% in the entrance and 10%-100% at the exit. Works well and looks nice. Luftmaschine has a simple, primitive version of what I'm talking about.

Meh, what I do is I stuff the polys together (shape varies if it's in part of a tunnel above ground), but each has the same material, I'm not sure how much translucency to use as it will vary depending on how much polys you use.

And here's a tip, use your modeler to do it, you can copy and paste it over and over, and if your modeler has placement features, you can use those too. Also, make sure the polys are single sided, you don't want to waste resources.
