Keen obvservers of my progress on NL were quite probably a little excited when my new computer arrived, although not quite as excited as I was, I can tell you. Having been out of NL for a while, I had slightly lost my touch and found it difficult to produce anything remotely good on the technical side. I have now, however, had a little time to practise and think I'm now ready to start building again, so here goes:

Project Sphinx is the first coaster I will be uploading, since I purchased this new computer and, because of the new computer, the track will have 3D's and a lot of them! These will be the first 3D's I have ever made and you may think it's not wise for me to go in straight away with a massive 3D's project when I don't have the first clue right now, but I'm throwing myself in at the deep end as it were. I already have a very good idea of the final look of the 3D's will be and I have already layed out the structure of them using supports in the editor, so the designing of them is done, although the track isn't complete yet. This whole "being able to actually see what I'm building" thing, is quite new to me, so what with the 3D's and all, this really is a kind of 'experimental' coaster for me and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out [:D].

Onto the track itself. I designed this track a very long time ago in a particularly boring maths lesson last year, but having not had the capabilities to build 3D's, I hadn't even considered building it til now. Originally and til about 4 hours ago, the layout was a little different, originally it had 2 new inversions and included an old inversion of mine, sunken into the ground entered and exited via tunnels. However, in building the track, I discovered that one of the inversions just about didn't fit, so I had to quite dramatically change the design and so now, it includes none of my inversions at all [lol]. Both new inversions however, have been noted and will appear on tracks later, as I think both have some potential. Also, instead of there being one of my old inversions sunken into the ground, it will now just be a cobra roll, but I think it works just as well as the old inversion would have done, although the lay out of some of the themeing had to be changed. But anyway, like I said, this is really more of an experimental ride for now, although obviously, I am trying to make it turn out as best as I possibly can. Think of Daemonen meets Nemesis, meets all the other B&M's without a MCBR [lol]

Here are a few pictures, although nothing too revieling at this stage and remember that some final smoothing still needs to happen, so the final track won't look exactly like that, but only very minor changes have to be made.

Well yeah, agreed. The actual 'drop' is the bit just before the loop, the stuff before that will be diving in and out of tunnels on the top of an ancient egyptian style building. Actually, the top two 3rds of the drop will be in a tunnel also.

Sweet. As I've said before, it will be great to have more good tracks from you.

I love the drop. But then again i really like the look of Daemonen. I love smaller B&Ms for some reason. Anyway, looking good so far. I cant wait to see how it turns out. BTW dude, your 3ds work sounds quite challenging when its going to be your first time making them. Good luck with that. Good luk with learning texturing too [;)] What 3ds program are you gonna use, i would suggest OC for simple buildings, and Anim8or for more complex work. [:)]

That first drop, although original, doesn't really do much. I doesn't give you that sudden rush as you're coming off the slow chain.
That's without 3D's though... if and when I see 3D's I may change my mind... maybe...

Altough I have no new pictures to show you, I have added tunnels to the parts where the ride will be diving in and out of the 3D's, mainly on the drop and I really think it adds so much. The turns are tight enough so that as you are going around them, you cannot see the tunnels coming until you are diving into them at 35+ mph, gives a real sensation of speed, despite you not actually going that fast at that point. I'm really quite pleased with it so far. More updates soon.

Just a couple of pictures to show you tonight, they were actually taken a few nights ago, the trackwork is actually now complete (bar some minor smoothing) and the 3D's are layed out with supports.

I guess I have to start on the 3D's now, only problem being, I'm still not quite sure what I will be using to make them [lol] any suggestions as to which is the best FREE 3d's software?

Hmm it's not for free, -well you do get a trial run of it, I use this one for my coaster efforts, it's not too complicated.. AC3D. you'd have to search for it I forgot the link and it's not on this -my office- pc. Have fun! K

Anim8or, or OC are the best (for their price :) ). OC will set you back a tenner though i think. I cant remember, i got it a long time ago.

hmmm, I guess a tenner ay so bad, I will probably get that then dude, it's not free, but hey, I just found a tenner on the floor, it's hardly massive money [lol] and judging by your 3D's jpe, it's not bad software either.

It has just come to my attention that someone else's ride that is currently being built, is also called Sphinx, this is called Project Sphinx, as the name was never definitely going to be "Sphinx". Anyway, if anyone could suggest another name to do with ancient Egypt, then that would be dandy, like one of the Gods names or something. I would think of one myself, but I'm not too hot on the subject and google is like one entire whole click away, and I can't be bothered with using ALL that energy just click a button and find out some Egyptian Gods names [lol]

how about Sekhmet? She was in my History of Medicine paper yesterday. I hate her, her subject made me have to write 12 pages in 2 hours sat in a freezing cold sportshall in silence along with 200 of my friends. You could call it that anyway.
