lets do a poll to see what the people realy want.do you think the curent rating systen needs improvement.

i have been reading some of the post about rating,and how to change them.i do beleave it need some work.all people do is try to get points how about those who just want a simple rate,and some feed back

Rather than bitch about it, how about give suggestions?

I has been obvious for a while now that it needs improvement. The question is, what and HOW do you improve it to provide the best results.

just dump the rating system,

comments can be put in the advertising or hardhat area

Seems like this topic has been disussed before about 100 times. Nothing is ever perfect and we all need to just move on to offering suggestions as opposed to saying the system sucks as there are far worse ratings systems out there, that's for sure.

Whew!!! That was a mouthful.

#1 Change I'd Like to see:

Change "Originality" to something else. "Layout" for instance. The current system effectivly penalizes realistic designs. If you're doing say, a realistic B&M Looper, there are only so many things you can do with it. I see people posting rides with weird elements just to get higher Orig. scores, and I really do think the overall quality of rides is suffering because of this.

I have an idea, ban people like bm409 and arrowtycoon who in fact are same people, that will prevent malicious ratings..... What do you think?

I think the system should be changed, but why don't you just make a contest of it. The one with the idea whitch is will be used will get 2000 slapping points. Becasue almost every noob rater want those things they might come up with a good idea.

For original designs, I personally wouldn't change anything. Some people seem to have problems rating on originality, but I don't really see that... To me, the main part of the originality rating IS actually a ride's layout (edit: I think it's definitely possible to make, say, a classical and realistic B&M looper that yet is original - if you just make another Medusa/Scream clone, what's the whole point about it anyway?), but there are other points (how many coasters of that type are being built with NL recently (GG , bonus points for extra scenery etc.).

The problem I see is rating ADRENALINE on recreations... I've seen so many raters giving lower points there because "it's not your fault, but the actual ride just isn't too exciting"... I think a perfect recreation of a ride which is less thrilling should also be able to get a perfect 10. So, why not just change the Adrenaline on Recreations to Accuracy? You don't even have to change the letter then I'm already rating recs like this, so the tech no longer contains accuracy, but just trackwork, supports, g's, tunnel test, train organisation, all these things. The main point of originality for recs is how many times a ride has been recreated already, and again how much detail the was put into it.

Why not replace realistic and fantasy for custom and contest? It may not help with the ratings that much but it's an idea.

One question ... WHO ARE THESE NOOBS WHO STARTED THIS POLL? I have not seen a rate from them, a track from them, etc. -- so, WHY is anyone here is giving any weight to their remarks or suggestions? Consider your source fellas -- consider your source. <severe eye roll>

How many times have we seen this poll/topic before. I think the whole site is stuck in one big loop. Pretty much anything you come up with will have been suggested before and/or is impractical/too expensive/ more effort than it's worth.

My view is that, if everyone used the system properly it would be great. Unfortunately, the misuse of it is a big problem. But then fixing the people is also virtually impossible without becoming a regime where everyone fears the top brass and no one rates for fear of being banned...for example.


Also, i think i'm going to start rating again, because this has put me in the mood, and De@no is uploading rides again. Cometh the rebirth of RCT2

I thought it was orig/accuracy anyway, not just originality. Well thats what ive been rating like anyway. I reckon its fine, just as long as people rate properly.

Personally I really hate when people take off points because a lot of coasters of a certain type have been built recently. If you make one and it stands out from the others in layout or individual elements, then it shouldn't be rated down because some other people decided to do the same style coaster. Plus, what if one person started their ride of a certain style before other people, and took their time to make it good, while others released their rides of that style when they're only decent, should the person who took their time be penalized because there have been a lot of that type of coaster recently? I really disagree with that. I've gotten several rates like that on CS and it's not cool.

But yeah, the rating system on this site is fine IMO. The problem isn't the rating system, it's the lack of raters and quality rates. I get over 300 dl's here and only 9 rates, whereas I got 170 dl's on CS and 38 (mostly quality) rates. If there were more of an incentive to give good rates, or a penalty when 2 liners, undescriptive rates, or "OMG WTF 3DS roxxors" rates are given, then I think the issue would improve somewhat.

I think it's wrong to take away scoring for each week like has been suggested, and to separate "newbies" from the experienced. Generally people new to NL have rides that aren't as good, and they should be rated as such. The only thing that should be different when evaluating rides from newbies and experienced builders is explaining more simple concepts in the comments. The rating IMO shouldn't be inflated because the person is new.
