Users who have uploaded a track will not be eligible to rate other tracks that are directly competing for medals during that given week. This means that if you upload a track that is in contention to win a medal, you will not be able to rate other tracks uploaded during that same week that are competing against your track.
You may however still write comments and a review of other tracks if you wish. If a staff member does find a violation of this rule, he/she will simply remove the number portion of the rating.

This rule will be put into full effect starting Sunday, December 18th.

So does that mean Thorazines rating on Jaguar will stand, or will you remove his numbers, and he can put them back on on sunday.

Edit- I see it was removed, nevermind. [;)]

Finally a good rule has been put in, but still wondering. Would we really have a grayed out button or is it deleting when staff sees it?

Since they aren't in direct competition I would say yes you can still rate NL with an RCT track up.

Yes, you can still rate other tracks from different sims, just not from the same program of the track that you uploaded.

Surprisingly, it gets deleted!

Excellent "addition" to the site BTW.

^We don't need to check every single track, just the ones that are competing for the medals.

This rule is to simply get rid of biased and revenge ratings.

No. I think it is quite obvious that a track that is getting rated a 6 is not going to be competing againt 3 or 4 other tracks that are scoring above 8.

I have a URDC coaster up, does that mean that I cannot rate any of the NL coasters this week?

If you're going to do this, it ought to be no rates in any sim you've uploaded in during the current week. No "in medal contention" or other such definition that can be left up to interpretation.

Finally. This has been a long time coming and I think it will be good for the community. Things have gotten out of hand over the last couple of months. It's good to see the admins and mods have been watching too. Great rule.

No, if you upload a URDC coaster, you CAN still rate any track/park from any other sim.

so if my thunderbolt is getting a 7.28, can i rate the contest rides?

Are you talking about the contest tracks or the tracks competing for weekly medals?
You may rate weekly medal rides because at this point your track is not in direct compitition for a medal. However, if at the end of the week your track is high enough to compete, your ratings (just the number part) on other rides will will be removed. If any of the other medal contenders have rated your track by the end of the week in this case, then their rates will also be removed.

If you're going to do this, it ought to be no rates in any sim you've uploaded in during the current week. No "in medal contention" or other such definition that can be left up to interpretation.

It is a simple enough rule that I can very quickly check someones track rating by removing someones rate.
There is no need to remove ratings on other coasters that clearly will not be competing for a medal.
There will be no interpretation of this rule by anyone as I will most likely be the only one to enforce it.

Of course, if in the future this rule does not work as planned it can be easily changed. Even though it doesn't seem like the staff here are not doing much about improving the rating system here, this is just one example of how we have been actively trying to improve it for everyone involved. This rule has been on the talking table for about two and a half months now and is just now being implemented. And there are many more ongoing discussions and debates going on between staff on what should be done.
