Okay... I just finished downloading all the tracks on my crappy dial-up connection, and I am going to go ride them now. I am planning to get the results up before Sunday, maybe even sooner, so stay tuned.

I just looked at all of the tracks, and I can only say one thing... this is going to be one close contest! All the tracks are really good, and I see no clear winner. I'll just have to crunch the numbers to figure it out.

hyyyper, you should look at the dropout rates on themepark.nl from everyone that enters you are already lucky if you have 2 or more entries

I'll just let CJD know that If this was a contest to build a wooden coaster I would have actually participated a 'little more'[;)] Steel Coasters are beggining to be a bore because if it's not 'perfect' everybody thinks it's a piece of crap and dosen't look at the 'Big Picture', Wooden Coasters pwn Steel Coasters[^]

The Track type didn't 'do it' for me either[stoning]

Don't take this the wrong way though, the contest was a great idea[8D]



Btw CJD, could you pleaze give a small review of that coaster, I'm starting to go on a GCI kick right now and I need advice... plus that coaster kicked Ass!

RATING UPDATE:
Since this was a unique contest, which dwelt heavily on several different areas of originality and adrenaline, I have decided to rate all of the tracks based on a different system than the normal ratings scale. It will be more like the old contest ratings that GFA used to give, rather than a .5-10 rating like in the last 2 contests. The areas are as follows:

1. Shaping (0 - 10 points)
How smooth is the coaster? Did it have pumping? Are the elements shaped correctly?

2. Pacing (0 - 10 points)
How exciting is the coaster? Does it feel fast and out-of-control, or slow and predictable?

3. Sequencing (0 - 10 points)
Are the inversions spaced correctly? Are the inversions repetitive? How are the unique elements integrated? How original is the track layout?

4. New Element (0 - 8 points)
How original is the new inversion? Does it fit into the coaster well? Is it thrilling? How marketable is the inversion as a whole?

5. Ride Operations (0 - 5 points)
How high is the ride capacity? Does the coaster pass all safety criteria? (e-stop, tunnel test)

6. G Forces (0 to -5 points)
Is the coaster comfortable for the rider?

7. Ride Setup (0 - 3 bonus points)
How well was the ride environment set up? Are the supports done well? Is there a custom station building? Are objects or trees cleverly integrated into the coaster? Is the coaster visually appealing?

SEVERE RULES INFRACTIONS: (no disqualifications, just huge deductions. Is this fairer to everyone than the old way?)
The track or supports go out of the boundary: ('0' in shaping)
The track is above 200 feet, longer than 7000 feet, or has too many lifts or launches: ('0' in pacing)
The coaster does not have at least 11 inversions: ('0' in sequencing)
Three of the same inversion are in sequence (5 point deduction in sequencing)
The coaster does not contain an original inversion: ('0' in new element)
The terrain has been significantly modified: ('-1' in ride setup)



I have already determined the final rankings and the scores each track will recieve, and need only to write out the descriptions before they are ready for posting. Stay tuned, and a winner will be announced. See you tomorrow...

i like those rating rules than previous contests. i think it is alot more accurate than the average BT, A, and O system.

In the last 2 contests, it was a 'build the best coaster' contest and the BT, A, O system was appropriate to judge with. This contest, however, has tons of special criteria so I felt that a special scale would be more appropriate.

personally i think you should use that system on all contests. seems more accurate personally. just my opinion though.

I'm leaving for Christmas break today, so I won't be able to get the results done for another couple of days. The ratings are currently half finished, so it shouldn't take much longer. Check back on Wednesday night and I will probably have them up.
