I got to be honest, I'm semi glad she lost mainly because really a ring should not define her devotion to whatever it is that she's doing. She should be able to do it without the ring so whatever rights they said were stepped on... well they're dumb because no one's saying that she can't publicly say she's gonna wait till marriage before engaging in sex... they're just saying she can't wear a ring. So wear a t shirt instead.

This past March we presented my daughter with a purity ring in front of the whole church, on her 13th birthday. She made a committment to be faithful to God and remain pure until her wedding night, and it was solely her choice. I cannot see how jewelry could be outlawed at a school when I am sure that something like an earing is allowed ... but again, it is just another attack on Christian faith in a vague attempt to take the focus off of God. At least she was brave enough to take the fight into the public and bring light that purity is STILL a good decision.

Now, let me caveat here before you hit reply. For those here who may seek to argue ... have and raise a daughter, and then come talk to me. Until you are a parent of a little girl, you may NEVER see the full scope of how important it is that your daughter not be bed-hopping. And for those little boys seeking to jump into a girl's pants today just remember, she is someone's daughter. If it was my daughter - I would break your neck all the same.

If the girl really IS a good christian, she won't do it anyway. Ring or no ring. Imagine she loses the ring. She immediatly has an excuse to ignore her faith and have sex with a boy she isn't married with. Because "no ring, no purity". That's why people wear it, no?
Hyper, I think it's just the European spirit not to make a big deal of premarital sex, or any christian rules in general.

I think you guys might have missed the point of my argument. I was basically saying that she does not need a ring to have her beliefs. It might be nice to have it on your finger as a reminder, but it's not needed. So the school has had a ban on jewlery, just because it's got religious importance does it suddenly make it acceptable? Well it just kind of makes it a whatever, to each your own thing, but the school has a rule and I'm sure the teacher didn't even know it was religious when he asked her to first take it off. I know how these things work I've seen it before.

It's not an attack on her beliefs. They just don't want her wearing jewerly. A ring should not be that important that you have to have it. You should never let a ring define you. THe way you live your life should be what defines you. Basically that's what I'm saying and I'm glad she lost because now maybe she will have to rely on her day to day acts to get her message across.

I think the fact that it does have significant religious ties attached to it makes it exclusive.

They said allowances were made for Muslim and Sikh pupils only for items integral to their religious beliefs and that, for the same reason, crucifixes were also allowed.

Please explain how wearing a cross on your neck is in any way different from wearing a purity ring? Both are jewlery and both have religious significance. The school is just being knowingly ignorant.


She should just wear the ring on a necklace with the cross on it.

Very true Real. It is again, another lame and encoded attack on religion. Slice it however you want, but this world has been trying to rid God out of everything for centuries. At the very least, that point cannot be argued.

How can you say that when a majority of the world believes in some God. Personally, I think they made the right call with this, but its rediculous that they still allow crucifixes and stuff for other religions too/ If they ban jewelry, they should ban it across the board and keep the judgement and bias factor out of it.

Focused we are, we weren't allowed belt buckles, chains or any kind of jewelry, except earings for girls in my middle or high school and we can't be arsed to make a big fuss about it.
