US record-label body the RIAA and movie-industry moguls at the MPAA are attempting to argue that copying a CD to a computer for carrying on an iPod does not, and has never, constituted fair use.

A report from the Electronic Frontier Foundation says 14 organisations, including the two mentioned, have submitted a filing as part of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act's regular review process of exemptions to provisions against tampering with technological protection measures.

This means that, in essence, all rights to copy anything are held by the copyright owner. Those rights can be sold or assigned, which is why a record label can reproduce and distribute a given musician's songs. Since copyright holders haven't granted specific permission to make a copy of a song, you aren't allowed to, by the letter of the law.

and therefore brings a whole new meaning to the word lowlifes. Seriously wtf is with these people? Do they seriously have so little life, nothing better to do than just to sit and say you cant copy music off a CD. I'm sorry, but I really do think these people are low life scum. I'd love to see how these jackasses would survive in the real world. Go make them live in a village in Ethiopia for 5 days and see what happens. These people just plain suck at life

The sad thing is, I bet the majority of bands (real bands..) could careless if their music gets passed around or copied from device to device.

Let's have a CD burning party in the "square", just to show our protest. You guys know this one is not going to last, right?

BTW, nice rant Edge ...

Yea, theres too many angles to get around it and too many people out there burning CD's. Heck, its still easy to find music illegally though I stoped doing that and started buying my own stuff a year ago.

Its frustrating that they would even try to win this war now.

What next, do I need a license to operate my computer?

"What next, do I need a license to operate my computer?"

yeah but it'll be cheaper for black and white ones! [lol].

Seriously though, it's not like they don't make enough money as it is, is it?

Its sounds like a bunch of BS to me, they need to understand the fact that even if this law passes that people still will burn and copy music.

So, what... is the American government going to arrest 100 million people for ripping CD's? Like Pump said, even if the law passes it's not going to change a damn thing.

they're going to kill the industry, and thier jobs will vanish.
Then what? Ha! They'll be screwed. So really all thier doing is screwing themselves over.

If they really wanted to get more money, they would be more co-operative with thier consumers. Thus making us happy, and wanting to buy thier products.

I don't like it when they put this software onto thier products that F*** up your computer. It makes me want to go pirate thier music just to show my protest, much like I pirate the beatles music to protest against MJ. It's my way of sticking it to the man.[lol]

Its also very easy to see why indipendent rock has such a big following now, because there are no large companies trying to rape you and deprvie you of music, which is basically our culture in a way. Sort of like an expression, but the companies like RIAA don't seem to realize that its not about the money as much as it is the art. I'd rather have people pirate and enjoy my work, or at least do with my music as they went, instead of making a couple of dollars more and pissing off people who would have otherwise enjoyed it. It totally ruins the whole concept around why we buy this product to begin with.
