I went to Cedar Point yesterday, got on Maverick and noticed a strange sound. Once I got off they looked at the car said it was a loose wheel and took it off the tracks. But, this is the second time I witnessed this. About a month ago we were in the station waiting to go and a car went on the steigle dive and it made that sound, I asked the operator what was wrong because he seemed concerned. He said there is a loose wheel...

Has anyone else noticed this? Could this be to much stress on the trains?

well I was there a couple days ago and I notice some people pointing at the train and saying either that there was a missing wheel(lol dunno where that came from) and also that one of the wheels wasnt spinning as it went from the break run to the station.
Go chuff yourself and have a nice day! :D

Was the wheel making a squealing sound? Because I've heard Intamin wheels squealing before at Halfpipe. It could be a similar problem.

no, its more of a rattle.

Now that I think about it, did Steel Dragon 2000 have some sort of issue similar to Mavericks before one of its wheels fell off?

Well, its mostly ALL Intamins that develop this rattle. MF gets a very bad rattle back seat near the end of the season. So much so it sucks to ride there the vibration is so bad.

What it sounds like is that the vibrations are just happening faster and needs more upkeep. The thing developed the Intamin rattle only a month or so after opening. However, I noticed it DIDNT happen with every train.

The last time i rode the maverick i did notice a kind of rattle or clicking sound in the backseat. I didnt think it was a wheel making that noise.

I was on the maverick opening crew this year. I was even working it in april before it opened. Maverick has six trains, each gets cycled many many many times a day. That puts stress on the wheels which are made only of nylon. They go bad, just like the wheels on your car, its not a big deal. When you hear one, its sounds like a big thing is happening, but so does a rock stuck in your tire. Its no big deal, when i worked there we would easily have one wheel replaced a day.

I dont think the "Intamin rattle" is due to a nylon wheel. It sounds more like the constant forces being applied are working the suspension to develop more "play" (or space) between the rails and the wheels and causing some added vibration.
