The past few days the site was out due to an attack on coasters2k.com which took out their server and in turn turned into something bigger and taking out the DNS server of the host. During the meantime I was in a fight with one registrar moving records over. Needless to say things got fixed and are switched and hotwired so we should be all set I guess. So yeah, people running sites, keep your software up to date, add all patches etc so stuff does not happen to you. We lost no data, we lost no files, we are intact, except for lost evenue from ad clicks etc but all else is fine.

Glad to see you back!

I had hoped that the absence was due to voluntary pulling down to escape nastiness, as opposed to viral crashes, etc.

GREAT that nothing was lost!

Welcome back

I sure didn't.[dunno]

I am glad we have members like SFF and Tcon that put a lot of work into keeping the site up and running. So to SFF, WWS and all other who worked on getting through the last few days, thank you very much. Your efforts are very much appreciated.[worship]

All that matters is that the network is up and running and nearly nothing was destroyed [:)]

I'm not sure if it's right for me to ask, but are you taking measures to prevent this from happening again?

Well what happened was that Gigabyte01 was attacked with a mysql injection and they wiped out all tables in MySql database, after that ensim fliped out and shutdown all the sites and killed DNS. Than they some how exploited the backup server and totaly wiped out the OS, we think they got into the NAS software with brute force or some exploit. After that they packeted flooded Gigabyte03 untill it went into "saftey" mode. (Shuts off the network card)Luckily weeweeslap was commenting on all the spelling mistakes on our website and noticed a tag message and we shut off the server. Luckily only about 12 customers were affected 3 with DNS and 9 with shared hosting. That about sums it up.

thery killed nintendo DNS? that system kicks so much ass, those bastards!

I don't know if this has anything to do with what happened, but the dropdown windows do not work in the nav bar below the header. I can go to the coaster exchange, but I can't get to the upload track, cool coasters, or my coaster links. It only happens on the homepage though.

hmm, I dunno, all seems to be working fine here, there's no code changes or anything like that, hopefully it fixes itself.

Well, no files were lost from WWS ... but yeah, lots to do to ensure this never happens again to any of us. :-)

You'll have to ask SFF ... I realized this morning that even the temp page was now down, so I am not sure what is going on????
