Hey guys, between now and the start of round 2(If I make it) I have decided to build a fun S&S woodie based on Avalanche at Timber Falls Amusement Park in the Dells. I have off tomorrow, so completion shouldn't take too long. Name suggestions appreciated! Here are two screens for now:

it looks nice, a little more height would be fun. I mean I know Avalanche is short but it seems it would give yur ride more character if it were like 10-20 feet taller. Also keep in mind, S&S heartlining is actually pretty bad and rough, so I'd advise not to use the AHG if you wanna heartline it.

Yes, looks like a nice beginning. Any ideas on what you'll be doing next?

Due to demand I am going to go ahead and make the ride bigger. Because of this, tomorrow I will sit down and come up with more layout ideas. Thanks for your comments guys.

Really? Cause Ive seen a POV of Falken a S&S Woodie over in Europe and the heartlining is actually there but minimal and its very smooth.

Please, dont just use any random excuse to say to not use a tool. Remember - a GOOD builder can use it to recreate anything.

That and Avalanche only got rough. It wasnt rough to start.

Heres that video for Falken-

I highly dissagree on the height issue. Some of the best woods I've been on have been under 80ft. I've had so many people compliment my Sehnsucht as one of their favorite woods ever and it stands only 85ft. tall. If even that much. Keep it small and intense like originally planned. Don't ruin a perfectly good ride based on a few opinions.

Yeah, I definetly agree with what your saying there. My only issue is with everyone saying it is too much like Avalanche. I may just need to pull off a different layout. As of now it stands 89 feet, 1 foot taller than Avalanche.

Im running into some issues making this thing be original and work in the state it is now. But because I love woodies, I still wan't to do a project on one. So I need you guys to give me suggestions. Some things I would do are:

-A bigger S&S (J2)
-Intamin (Balder)
-CCI (Legend)

If you have any other ideas please suggest them here. Thanks!

lol real I wasn't tool bashing or anything. And I probly shoulda said the heartlining on Avalanche, not just an S&S in general. and the reason for me saying NOT to use the AHG is because when I watch a POV I can sorta visualize what the ride would be like in NL which for a lotta coasters I can visualize where the bumps would be. MAYBE its just me cuz EVERYONE I've talked to about it say they can't, but I'm positive its there. Just try an be a bit more observant than usual and you might be able to visualize where a vertex would be placed on the track and how rough/smooth the transition of it would be. Also, if you want turns like Avalanche, I guarantee you its impossible to make the 2nd section of turns with the AHG and have it be like it is on the real coaster.

Thats part of the reason why i'm not sure what to do. Thanks for the input though.

Height doesnt matter at all, look at the 'Grand National', thats approximately 63 feet tall. And that ride delivers some nice floater and extreme ejector airtime, and not forgetting awesome laterals.

It's true that a fantastic coaster doesnt have to be high at all.

If your looking for a name i wouldn't creep towards a terrifying name like 'wooden death' or something, try to keep the name simple but with meaning. Something mythologiacal or something along that line.
But the choice is your obviously, hope i am helpful in some way!

http://www.behindthename.com/nmc/myth.php < This site hosts alot of names and descriptions of what the name actually means. The names are from old myths and some have meanings along the subject of wood, 'splinter' is there and also thorn.

The best name i found was 'AELLA' which means means "whirlwind" in Greek.
I thought this name would suite your coaster to a high extent (looking at the pictures)
Nevertheless theres hundereds of names there, its worth having a look in.

The issue on the second turn has now been fixed. Thanks for the comments! On all 3 hills the airtime is about -0.7 and on each turn the lats are around 0.8.

Im considering going original by having an under ground tunnel, but im not sure if I should make that commitment without knowing someone will be able to do a 3d tunnel.

Not really, thats last priority right now. Its quite ironic, as this came back on the front page I was opening the track up to work on it.

4 new screens:

Im now working on the tunnel, which will cut under the lift and join back with the first turn and interact with the first half as the coaster continues and eventually ends.

Which turns? Ill do it in an hour.

Its the original shape that matters - not the AHG. Remember, I do all my own trackwork by hand and the smoother so its fully customizable more so than Elementary stuff. Is that what you meant? Because when I use the AHG it comes out very much like my original work - just with a heartline of like 0.3.
