Father questioned after children found dead in blazing car

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The bodies of two young children were found in a burning car Sunday, and police suspect their father set the blaze, officials said.

After extinguishing the fire, firefighters discovered the bodies of two children in the sport utility vehicle on a downtown alley, said Brian Humphrey, a fire department spokesman. Their names and ages were not immediately released.

"There were two individuals that were placed in a car -- two kids -- and the car was set on fire," police Sgt. Lee Sands said.

"We believe the person responsible for this crime is the children's father."

The 54-year-old father was found near the SUV with severe burns on his face, hands and legs, authorities said. He was hospitalized in critical condition and being questioned by police.

The decline of civilization?

I think you'll find that setting people on fire has been common place at points during history...

Although I'm obviously not defending that as it is entirely inexcusable. Stress can do crazy things to you though, I don't know the person obviously so I can't say whether or not that is something that he would have ever conisdered doing. He might very well have felt trapped by something and felt it the only way out of a situation... the human mind is a terrible thing that can play havoc with even the nicest people.

It has to be either drugs or mental illness. I can't imagine setting a car with your kids on fire and just walking away. My heart breaks just thinking about it.[V]

they're reporting the father was going through a divorce and battling over custody and guess couldn't stand being without his kids that he rather kill them all, he did catch on fire as well though it is unkown if he catching on fire was also on purpose or accidental since he was found outside the Escalade and witnesses say he was trying to put himself out. The greater question is since there was a large amount of witnesses, why did neither of them step him while he was doucing the kids in gas. Several of the witnesses say the girl tried to run away after do0ucing the brother, time of action was not a factor but they did not feel the need to help the kids, that's where I think there is more degrading of civilization.

This sounds like Christians bombing abortion clinics. Someone dies in a fire.

Christians dont bomb abortion clinics. Posers who call themselves christians bomb abortion clinics. Its pretty clear. If you think a real christian would do that - you havent met one. Just a poser. Which there are WAY too many of.

Setting someone on fire is too hard in the Middle East. When every kid is equipped with an AK-47 as soon as they are old enough to hold one why use fire? A few well placed AK rounds are more than enough.

As for the story - appauling but seriously our civiliation is in decline. Morales dont exist anymore. Standards? People dont know what those are either.

And then you have families and divorce. Whats the cause of these awful divorce outcomes? Greed. Hatred. Ultimatly - a lack of love. At no time should the murder or anyone be the answer. Especially your own children. Why is it so hard to have joint custody? Why do parents think that their kids ONLY want to see one instead of the other? Only in a case where one parent is a complete dead beat this happens way too much between two parents who do love their kids equally but have no love for themselves and ultimatly kids end up being possessions instead of people.

This world needs love and it needs it bad. Most people though dont even know what real love is. Probably afraid of it too. Its such a different concept than the world and civilization shows us.

EDIT - How coincedental - This episode of the Simpsons Im watching is about how no one cares about family. [V]

^Agreed. So often, people get so wrapped up in the love of fiscal things like money, power, and status, they forget what's really important in life... family, love, and compassion for others. That is what truly gives us a purpose.

Wow that frowny face really got me there. Why don't you go pray about it or something? It'll definitely get fixed then.

(Added a section on prayer)

Well, dont make a sarcastic joke about us not being active when I dont see you doing anything either. Lets be real here. Plus I have to start in my neighborhood and do work here before I branch out. We dont have that problem around here. The real christians in those areas need to step up and put a stop to it.

Again though you display your lack of knowledge for Christians and probably in religion in general. All youve been exposed to are clearly posers and those who dont act but are passive. Christianity isnt about being passive. Last time I read through any of the Gospels Jesus did more than just sleep - He made things happen.

People who call themselves christians but do nothing to act on anything are the most useless of peoples. Nonbelievers are more useful to God because they dont know what they do. A believer who does nothing and waits for God to do it all is about as useless as it gets. I used to be that so I know - but not anymore.

Im not trying to call you out. Im trying to say that you really dont know who or what a christian is by your comments. Its evident because you are lumping the real Christians who do real work and help real people with the crazy radicals who are not really christians but people using religion to fullfill their own agendas. You could even call these people terrorists since they have done the same thing with Christianity that the radicals in the middle east have done with Islam.

I think you would agree with that. Its not rocket surgery here. Its pretty clear but they try to use religion to cover it up. Sad job they do at that I must say.

Dont be so foolish as to lump everyone together under one label. Seek out a real christian - not a poser and then get back with the results. It may take you some time to see who they are since you obviously have some predijice issues but seriously, do it. Its not hard to spot someone whos genuine. They will usually do things and say things that are completely what you wouldnt expect out of a normal person. If they do act like any other person in the world - they probably are just posing. Being nothing more than a hypocrite.

Try it. You will suprise yourself.

EDIT - You mentioned sarcastically to just pray and see if it gets fixed. Well, you are right in your sarcasm - it wont get fixed.

Prayer isnt some magic tool that Christians use to get answers. Infact, thats not its purpose at all but most feel it is. When do most people pray? In crisis situations. When they need an answer or in general - want anything. Isnt that selfish? Heck yes.

Prayer is a form of conversation with God - its not a help tool. You dont just punch in your request and get an answer. Its about talking to God about who you are. Its about telling Him whats going on in your life and being honest with not just yourself but Him.

See, where most people go wrong is they forget that God really wants to talk to everyone all the time - not just in their crisis situations. If someone only ever came to you when they needed something they wouldnt be much of a friend would they? God looks at the same way. He still has compassion and love for everyone but if all you do is come to Him in prayer to ask Him this and ask Him that and you need this person saved from disease and this latest trend - blah blah blah. That gets old.

Prayer doesnt fix things IMO. Faith does. Faith though - before you think its passive - ISNT. Faith requires action by nature. Sitting around praying for the crazy people to stop bombing the abortion clinics isnt going to do anything - nor is it a show of your faith. Its a cop out and it requires no effort on their part and requires no interaction.

I think one of the #1 reasons christians fail to be christian is a lack of faith to move. They lack the faith to do the things they want too because they fear something may happen to them. They may upset someone. They may fail, etc. Faith and prayer require 2 things - action.

So when people say "Ill just pray about it" tell em to pray - then act on it. Its useless without action.

Actually I have from altruism Mr. Sarcastic Winky Face because it creates a similar effect in the brain. So does exercise and meditation. But I'm sure you already knew that.

Ha, it wasnt sarcasm. Also I highly doubt you and altruism should go in the same sentence. If so - it sure doesnt show.
