Yes, I used the forum search, so jpecool or whoever posts that Using the Forum Search Tool For Dummies, dont post it.

Who out there plays guitar?
I have a Squire strat, its my first guitar, and it is my "destroying" guitar. I can do pretty much anything with it. This summer i'm getting a 1989 Ibanez. My strat has these awesome black strings, yeah, there cool. Called black diamonds I think.

i have a mid -1940's silvertone jumbo acoustic, with two very clean sounding dearmond pickups that slide on a little rail above the sound hole. i have an epiphone dot (gibson es335, before the ones they started selling at guitar center)which i use as my main instrument when performing or recording, a gretsch electromatic with a very nice p-90 for leads and good electric rythm tones, a 1978 takamine 12 string, in very nice shape, the action is to die for, i've played many 12 strings and none have matched this. an old early 70's cort electric (i'm pretty sure it's not the same company as the new ones)that i have tuned open with a 57, 47, and 37, only three strings here because it's used specificaly for drones, and just recently i bought a 1962 silvertone model 1448 (made by danelectro in usa for sears from the late fifties nto the late 60's) , complete with the built in tube amp in the case, sounds AMAZING when i'm recording. i also have a fender jazz bass(i love playing bass, and i like the jazz bass more than i like the p bass but not as much as a ric)and an old japanese hoffner violin body bass. for amps i have a 1965 vox berkley II with a berkly 3 2x10 cabinet...it's solid state but old style class a solid state so i figure i cold get about 40-50- watts total out of it but i run it some where around 18-20 max. i can assure you that at a reasonable stage volume it sounds as good if not better , than a twin reverb, or one of the new kustoms or oranges. and that's with the tremolo off. once it's on... well.. even if the amp itself couldn't hold it's own as a classic warm and clean machine, the trmolo is maybe the best i've heard from ANY amp.. the reverb , though it sounds GREAT when the amp is turned up , is really noisy at lower volumes. i also have a carvin tube amp, 2 channels 100 watts total, and it was modded by carvin so that both chanels can be used at once.. it's got a 12" celestion in it , and can run another if i had one, that thing is LOUD.. and very clean sounding , with 2 eq's (one for ecah chanel) and really good presence... however i love my vox way more, but if i was more into playing hard rock or metal the carvin would be perfect. my freind in l.a. has my ampeg vst70, but he's had it for a long time and might think it's his... i also have tons of keyboards and circuit bent stuff and pedals and percussion and two REALLY nice vintage synths , and 2 not so nice ones too.. and a farfisa organ, and a hohner international electronic piano.

an old early 70's cort electric (i'm pretty sure it's not the same company as the new ones)that i have tuned open with a 57, 47, and 37,

Are you sure that guitar can handle such high string guages? Must be quite a strong neck to withstand that kind of strain.

I've been playing guitar for several years now and really I just cannot live without playing guitar. I get to play all the fancy technical stuff including the blistering Satch/Vai style solos down to the Stevie Ray Vaughn style rhythm. I am yet to come across a song (within reason) that I cant play on guitar yet [lol] But to be fair, I dont feel there is any skill whatsoever in playing other peoples solos. I usualy just record rhythm and drums onto the computer and solo along until my heart is content. At the moment I am using a Schecter C1-FR guitar and a hopefully soon I will be getting a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier...but that's not for certain, I think every guitarist wants one so bad and when you've saved up ?????????800 for one and then decide...actualy I might need a car, it's a darn hard decision to make. As for my guitar, I honestly couldnt ask for anything else. It cost me ?????????450 to buy and is now on sale for ?????????550 and in my honest opinion, it is so much better than the higher priced guitars. It really is in a league of its own and I would seriously recommend it to anyone...just forget about your Gibson Les Paul (after all, they are just over rated so much it's rediculous) The only thing I changed on my guitar was the Pickups, but then again, doesnt that go for all guitars.

Anyway, here is an old picture of my home setup with my old Marshall MG150HDX

That's an Epiphone SG that had a little accident lets say. It was knocked off its stand where it managed to fall over, snapping the G machine head straight of, completly snapping all the wood around the input jack and leaving various other dents and chips all over it. Plus the SG is heavily wieghted towards the neck end and really isn't playable live when you are also trying to sing and taking your left hand off the neck, it does have a sweet heavy distortion sound, plus dropping the guitar a half step really gives it the Guns n' Roses kick that I love

keyboard amps are really good for recording guitar. they work really well for mid ranges and can handle spikes of deep bass too...

other than to do something like, say, raise your fist in the air , would one need to take thier hand of the neck?..[dunno][dunno][lol][lol] i agree though.. the sg's strength is not in it's design, they break really easy, especially the older ones.. but they sound really mean , and that's a good thing sometimes.

that's the difference between you and i probabaly.. i'm defineately not a big nirvana fan , but the slur of curt cobain's guitar was what i liked the most about their music.. on the other hand i cannot stand joe satriani or stevie ray vaughn, i've tried to listen to both, tried hard, with headphones, and it just seems too clean and sterile for my tastes.. but on the other hand i'm positive that either of them are more "skilled" guitarists than anyone i'm fond of, it's just that i don't like that kind of music.

Do you guys have any recordings of your stuff? If so, please share.

I've been playing guitar for 'bout a year and a half now and I am absolutely head over heels in love with the damn thing. I started out with a FirstAct POS, but now I have a SquireStrat like most people. I play mostly rythm, I love playing rythm. Don't know why, but there are a crap load of lead guitarists and no good rythm besides myself. Been trying to start a band here, almost did at one point but our drummer left us for another band. So now we've got lead, myself, and possibly a bassist. If anybody plays drums and lives in NW Arkansas, let me know. [;)]

Cheers to all of the guitarists out there!

I've been playing guitar for almost 4 years now, and I start to go crazy if I go more than a few days without playing. I probably play at least an hour a day, either figuring out songs, or just messing around trying to write my own stuff. Right now I've got an Epiphone Les Paul Custom and a Music Man HD130 tube half stack that I mainly play on but I also have an Ibanez GAX70, a Galveston accoustic, a squire bass, and a 65 watt Crate amp. For effects I've got a Digitech Metal Master (which sounds great through the tube amp), an Ibanez phaser, and a really old XP100 Whammy-Wah that I got when I was really into Rage Against the Machine, which was actually what got me into guitar in the first place.

Here are a couple songs I've done just by myself with a drum machine. They each have a completely different feel but they were done almost a year apart.

I have been playing for about 2 years now and I love playing. Guitar is such an amazing instrument that can really fit in almost any kind of music. Although I am not very old, I am very committed to my guitar. Currently I own a crappy Ibanez start-up pack guitar thing, a VOX AC30VT amp and a Digitech DF-7 Distortion Pedal. I play a lot of 80s and 70s rock but lately I've been doing much more improvising and trying some soloing and stuff. No band though, just a drummer friend who seems to never have time to jam...sigh.

ive been playing almost two years now i guess.
according to all of my friends i have progressed at an outstanding rate, which i think may have been because of my previous 8 years of violin.

i currently own a b52 200W half stack with digitech's grunge pedal, an ibanez ax120, epiphone les paul custom(black, same as guitarplayer763's)and a schecter c-1 elite(orange, flame top)
once i have the difference im gonna sell my b52 and get a mesa/boogie road king head with the limited road king cab(big jumpstart from my 'spend however' $1000 from trading spouses)

also, once i get my mesa, im probably gonna end up selling my paul and ibanez and saving for the difference to get an esp eclipse II(wine red, flame top)

jayman, you have to listen to If I Could Fly - Joe Satriani, I am yet to meet a living person that dislikes that song (all the ones that disagreed unfortantly came to and end, beaten to death with a guitar of something) I do see what you mean though, some songs can get quite repeatitive if you aren't in the listening mood. I just bought Joe Satrianis new album Super Colossal, and whilst the guitar is still perfect, some songs I just end up skipping through because it starts to get the same, which wasn't the case for his album 'Is There Love In Space?' which I recommened.

there's more to it than that... it's defineatley a show of skill, and talent for operating a guitar , but it's not what i call art, nor should i expect everyone to like art.... as far as repetitive, i LIKE repetitive and most of my favorite music involves a maximum of 3 chords... to me thurston moore from sonic youth is WAY more interesting than satriani or the other stunt guitarits. it's the difference between watching wrestling and watching performance art.

here's some stuff i posted on myspace http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... d=23189433

and herehttp://profile.myspace.com/index.cf ... d=23559844 as sugarrush railroad incorporated

and some wierd experimental stuff here http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... d=48833753
it's the only stuff i have online but there's tons more on cassette from my four track days and some videos and heaven knows whats on my hard drive ... i don't expect most peoploe to like it, but you asked....

Gargunchatron Forest sounds pretty cool, reminds me alot of Tool. I think if you added a solid drum beat to that song about half way through it'd sound awesome
