Hydrogen will cost much much more for fuel in its current state of developement. The storage tanks are bulkier and hold less than gasoline, E85 or diesel tanks do. Right now, I'd say a plug in hybrid would be a good idea. That or a diesel, they're very clean burning these days.
Hybrids are good in the sense that they're clean burning and they buy us time to find a better, even more renewable fuel source. With that said, I can't help but feel they're only a way to extend the shortage. Even though its almost inevitable, I hope that car retails won't try and see this is just a new sales proposition. I REALLY hope they see the real problem that hybrids and newer generations of cars are made to prevent.
