I found this in an old Tampa newspaper last month ... worth a glance or two at least. I am certain, that not only America shares this sentiment when feeling their culture is "invaded" with propoganda from other "citizenship origins". Cheers.

------

This is an editorial written by an American citizen, published in a Tampa newspaper.

IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT.

I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority
of Americans. However...... the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct! " crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to ! America. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity.

As Americans...... we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan.. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women.......on Christian principles.............
founded this nation..... and this is clearly documented.

It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home.........because God is part of our culture.

If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from.

This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so! But once you are done complaining....... whining...... and griping....... about our flag....... our pledge...... our national motto........or our way of life....I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other Great American Freedom.......

THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

It is Time for America to Speak up

I'd agree completely if it wasn't for the U.S. being highly ingluential in the entire world. Of course, the order of chane is not for the people to do on their own but the immigrations laws to chang to only accept people who fit x criteria in my opinion for this post to be valid. The whole here in the USA must talk English thing is total bullcrap when we have soldiers fighting in other countries to promote the individuality and acceptance of difference by the people in those countries. I love U.S.A. but man this country can be quite hypocritical. The only reason the U.S.A. is due to the "Americans" going to war basically with the people that were here and spoke other languages, had other customs. I am quite certain the natives of the land felt the same way back when the white man "immigrated" across the Atlanctic to what is now known as the U.S.A. But anyway, I am sure someone is gonna find a way to [r] this up with some kind of bullshit like now it is English America and crap for if it war the only way to achieve change, war you shall have. Though frankly I am sick of the U.S.A. treating every immigrant as if all of them were Mexicans. "Mexicans thius Mexicans that", people should look at an atlas or something to see that the immigrants come from Mexico cuz that is directly south of us. Why not Canadians? I mean look on tv, you can see the border officials up north video taping them yet doing almost nothing to stop them... Just something to take a second look at. Though I notice this topic does not mention anything about Mexican but I am sick of hearing it everywhere else.

Yeah, I was aware to be sure it did not relate to the immigration crap we have weeded through in this nation already over the past month, but I can certainly understand your frustration ... the idiots in this nation are really dorking things up royally. But, as far as speaking English ... well then, provide me some translator so that when I am in a crowd in San Antonio and hear "gringo" and then "pendejo" after it I am not offended. ;-)

The reality is:

As the world gets bigger and bigger and poorer nations become more and more overcrowded, immigrants will look to nations with mature economies as an attempt to make a better life.

We need to ask two things:

1) Are the governments of the countries experiencing population flight striving to make change? If not, we as the countries absorbing their population need to either demand compensation for the increased population, or at the least sanction the government until it starts to effect change on its own county. Mexico is a valid example of many countries that have all of the resources, industrial capacity and workforce it needs to be successful. The problem with Mexico vs. Canada is that Mexico has an inherently corrupt government, both local and national. America needs to put more pressure on the Mexican government to develop itself. That would help more than anything stem the flow of illegal immagration. I think the correct issue that American's should have with Mexico is towards the government, not the people.

2) The issue is not really an issue of wether or not we should allow immigration, but more an issue of stemming undocumented immigration. There are a lot of legal status, non citzen immigrants that contribute to our countries success. I would actually like to see it become easier for those members of our society to become full citizens. The problem, and it is a major problem, is the strain that undocumented immigrants put on our system.

There are a lot of reasons for someone to sneak into our country, but quite often it is because that individual has some history that would preclude them from citizenship. Where I live (Salt Lake City) we had 49 murders last year (which is about 15 minutes worth in Oscar's neck of the world[sillyme]). Of those 49 murders, 26 where undocumented immigrants that later turned out to have records in ther native country. That statistic is not a regional issure.

There is also the real issue of citizens fleeing their country to have medical procedures, like births, in the US. Once the procedure is complete, they dissapear and leave the hospital with the bill. Anyone from the US sick of ridiculously high medical premiums? See the above issue for a major reason our medical system is spiraling out of control. I feel strongly that we need to end the policy that a child born in the US of 2 undocumented citzens immedialty gets citizenship. That is absolute crap and is a big contributor to the immigration issue. There is little question why illegal immigrants do this, as it leads to easier and quicker citizenship.

Lastly, we must not forget that we as a country are still at war. Although we can't isolate ourselves from the world, immigrants need to understand the importance of making sure we are not inviting terrorists into our country. There is no easy solution to this problem.

I believe that if an immigrant is willing to pay taxes and become a contributing member of society, than we need to make it easier for them to gain citizenship. It is arrogant though to assume that we as Americans should learn a foreign language to be more accomodating. It really needs to be the other way around IMO and if someone wants citizenship bad enough, it shouldn't be an issue. There is a reason we don't speak German, Spanish, Italian, Chinese and all of the other languages our immigrant forefathers spoke, we are Americans and our national language is English.

End rant.[:p]

someone called you a "pubic hair" ? seriously.. i've never had this terminology used against me negatively, although i've seen it used that way, and have used it that way pedejo can mean anything from "idiot" to "coward" to "complete fool".an old mexican proverb states that if all the pendejos were put into a coral there'd be noone to close the gate. . .. maybe it's me, or just because in california we are not as nationalistic, (probabaly me) i tend not to take offense when i hear it. even our governator is famous for saying "hasta la vista".. out here in the "land of fruits and nuts" we have a tendency to use spanish and english interchangably. when a mexican girl sees something cute for her kid she might say.."que cute", and i say "que onda, wey"(leaving the wey part out if it's not a freind of course) more times a day to people than "what's up dude"
of course i'm a complete wierdo, and that might be why i take offense to people demanding assimilation. i'm sure there are instances that require everyone to be watching the same channel, and having served in the armed forces i know what it's like, and couldn't stand it( probabaly what i hated the most), but saw the neccesity in it..

again, i'd rather live somewhere where it might be somewhat inconvinient to communicate with some people than in a place where everyone was the same.
