2006 WWS/CC.COM NoLimits Tournament (Round 3)

Welcome to Round Three of the 2006 WWS/CC.com NoLimits Tournament. It's getting down to the wire, and this time you will have to delve deeply into your navigation skills to get through the template. Who can make the best small scale B&M inverted coaster? We'll find out. The best track from each group will advance to the final round, where the 4 survivors will duke it out in one final free-for-all for the top prize of a platinum medal and 50 dollars. Good luck, everyone. You'll need it. [:p]

DOWNLOAD THE TEMPLATE HERE:
http://weeweeslap.com/users/cjd/2k6_Round_3_Template.nltrack

THE RULES:

This template was designed to force you to make some very tight turns and tricky manuvers to get through it. As you can see by the dual pictures above, it is more complex than any of the other templates so far. The key to building a high scoring coaster here is to use lots of tight turns with great adrenaline, and lots of interactions with the ground. Tracks will be judged in each of Technical, Adrenaline, and Originality aspects with a maximum score of ten points for each. Then, up to three bonus points can be added depending on how well the coaster interacts with the ground in the form of trenches, tunnels, and other ground-related scene objects. The tricky part is that the higher that you raise the ground, the less space you have overhead. Good luck, everyone.

  • Track Style must be '4-seat Inverted Coaster'
  • ALL track must remain COMPLETELY within the given boundaries
  • No track can be positioned in any of the red 'islands' either
  • All track must remain below the purple lines (front view, see picture 2)
  • All station track (just track, not building) must be completely contained within the red "x"
  • All LIFT track must be completely contained within the blue "x". A lift track is defined as ANY piece of track with a chain, friction wheels, or LIMS that goes uphill
  • No launches are allowed. A launch is defined as any piece of track with transport devices that increase the speed of the train
  • The coaster must contain at least 5 inversions. An inversion is defined as a piece of track with banking of over 150 degrees.
  • G Forces should be kept under 5.2 vertical, 1.5 lateral, and -1.5 airtime (no disqualifications for this, but points will be taken off)
  • The template cannot be modified in any way. Last round, I let you move it vertically, but now that there is a height restriction in effect this is no longer allowed
  • All tracks must be submitted by 11:59:59pm EST Friday, May 12th
  • Send finished tracks to cjd@muskingum.edu or post them on the exchange with a "(Round 3)" tag, and please post a link in this topic.
  • Once a design is posted on the exchange, it is accepted as your final design. If you send a track through e-mail, you may re-submit as often as you like.

Have Fun, and Good Luck!

Questions & Answers

If you have any questions you can post them in this topic. I will try to answer your question A.S.A.P. Your question and the answer will be posted under this header.

Q: Is there a length/height minimum/maximum?
A: No. As long as you stay in the boundaries, you can do anything.

I've now got a prelift, first drop and a loop done so far, and I've got a 3 day weekend to do the rest of the trackwork. I don't know the layout exactly yet, I'm just building as I go along, and seeing what will fit in the available space. I've still got a basic idea of the elements I want to use, I had loads from a random floorless coaster I started a while ago that would work perfectly here.

Sounds good guys, can't wait to see your creations.

I wonder if Tyler will even submit a track?

I thought he quit the site for the 100th time again after his last ride did not get perfect ratings.[lol]

Too bad as he is a very good designer.

This template looks very fun and I really look forward to everyone's entries.

Starting off with a loop? You should change it up for easy points. Wish I was in this round, I would start off with a barrel rollout of the station with a sharp right turn into the lift, after the lift an inverting drop into a dive loop.

Sequencing and originality aren't quite as important as last time. It's intense ground interactions, not original elements that will score you high originality points.

Some good elements never hurt, though [;)]. You'll still get props for them.

Is the track allowed to go anywhere within ALL of the red boundaries? i.e. Are we allowed to make the track go into the small strip next to the lift portion without the islands?

Ok. That's a bummer. My brake run and pre-drop go straight through two of those sections. [lol]

Am I the only one who's gotten anywhere? usually by now people are posting tons of screenhots and stuff about what they've done, but so far nothing.

Anyway, I'm about half finished with the trackwork. I've got 3 inversions done; a prelift heartline roll, a loop, and a zero-g roll. Screenshots here.

Yeah, most of the hype-ers are out of the contest. That, and the fact that this template is evil... mwahahahaha! [devilish]

To say the least. I'll be pushing it to get all the 3ds done before the deadline, especially since this will need the most ambitious theming I've ever tried.

Will you rate down for tunnel test intrusions with the station and lift Xs or the top of the height restriction?

Nope. Those boundaries are just like the equator... they're there for reference, but not physically there IRL.
