My concern with the picture of the Deja Vu cars and the pic is that the Deja Vu cars seem to be farther apart. The car in the picture from No Limits seems much closer together.

Notice the thing on the left. It looks like the seats are connected to another part of the train...

the 4-seater vekoma trains would make sense because the track style is already there, and I'm pretty sure there's nothing that needs to be done in order for them to work with mechanics of the style

we're talkin about NL here. mind you there are still people with comps that can't put out anything above 30fps.

Guys, I am talking about making round wheels ... nothing to do with FPS rate, graphics cards, etc. If they can make octagons, they can make circles - that is all I am suggesting. Sure, it would take some additional work on it, but once you did it, it would be done forever. ;-)

And oh, most forums (including this one) have an edit button.

I doubt circular wheels will be in this update, but maybe NL2. The current NL engine can only render flat polygons, and it is therefor impossible to create a perfect rounded cylinder. The textures can be smoothed to mke them look 'round', but the sides will always be a polygon of some sort.

The wheels on the new B&M trains look pretty good to me. Not quite circular, but still good.

Well, ole was already hinting in the discription about a new machine:

One of our espionage satellites orbitting the earth took some extremly interesting photos of a new design near the secret NoLimits production plant. Central intelligence has investigated the photos but is unsure right now whether we see a new weapon or a new coaster style or whatever. We have programmed the satellite to take a closer look at this strange kind of machinery when it is again over the NoLimits plant on its orbit. This will take place in around 10 days. Maybe you can try to recognize more than our intelligence until then. We have no doubts that this secret kind of machinery will be part of NoLimits 1.6.


Sounds enough that he is going to add another style. And with tons of hope on the flyer. But like i told 2 pages ago. I still think it's just the Gerstlauer launched coaster that he is going to add in too[:)]

Tcon, what do you mean by circle? How many sides do you want? 10? 12? 64?

The Intamin Hypers have pretty nice wheels I thought. I didnt even notice them not being perfectly round because in the 3d world thats ALOT of polygons. Imagine a wheel that has...32 sides. For each side of the wheel thats 32 triangles. Then, for each small rectangle that makes up the running portion of the wheel thats 2 polys. So thats 64. You have 128 polygons just for the wheels and thats one wheel. For a B&M theres 6 Wheels per rail per car. Thats 12 per car total coming in at 1536. On a 9 car train thats alot of polygons. Even on an 8 car train with no zero car thats alot. Thats just in the wheels. Not to mention the entire rest of the car. If you do 16 sides or even 12 sides for a circle now you have half or more than half of those polygons to go elsewhere.

High Polygon circles and spheres are some of the more complex objects in the 3d world (that are simple but all over) that eat up FPS like nothing else.

tcon, what your talking about doesn't exist on the level that NL is on in the present day. there are ways to do it yes, but with NL, how can you not be talking about FPS when it comes to the way things are designed? making round wheels takes a lot, and not many people have the computer power to do it.

Anyways, I think a flyer is likely because...
A: Unlike a 4D, it wouldn't take excessive ammounts of scripting to implement it into the game.
B: Since Tatsu, I know a lot of poeple have been wanting to build a flyer, the addition of a flyer train only makes it more ideal to do such.
C: It will actually get used... unlike the 4D roller Coaster.

I'm thinking we may also get 1 or 2 other surprises... but either way, whatever it turns out to be, I'll be happy with progress.

I don't want octogons, polygons, or any other *-togons. I want wheels. Caveman invented them, and I support them. I could care less about seats that have logos -- just give me some wheels that actually would be rollable on a real track.

This thread is about asking for new things to improve, so there you go. Gripe at me if you want, I am not phased by it ... but this would be my desire. Ya know, just another designer who does not what he is doing. [;)]

I think you have completely missed the point of what has been said...
Poly's are what make up those models that you see running on your computer. The higher the poly count, the higher quality video card you will need. To keep FPS speeds running at a good level for a larger demographic of computers to play at, you need to cut polies wherever you can. So, round objects such as wheels, barrels, and round corners are actually not perfectly round, simply because you can not make it round unless you have a whole crap load of polies. Even if you look at games like CoD 2, you'll notice that the barrels and wheels still have edges, although they are harder to notice simply because there is a higher poly count in the model.
I hope you see why you can't have 100% round wheels now, if not... well then... ok....[lol]

tcon, ^ again with my point about not everyone having enough computer power to run what you're asking for. I understand what you mean when you say "with all the technology today," but its just not possible because not every has that technology.

In those pictures, it almost looks like a top view, and he did say it was from a satelite.

A triangle is the smallest, and thus most efficient polygon there is. Of course, you can have squares - but a square is still made up of 2 polygons. Just like a pentagon is made up of 5 triangles.

The most basic of shapes is a triangle. Take away one line and youve got just that...a line. Which has no value in a 3d world unless that line has two other lines connected to it to create something tangible.

Those look Pvery round to me - almost too round. Id rather see polys put elsewhere but if those things run well, then score up a point for Ole.
