so I'm havin trouble getting my fdd to work properly. when I put a disk in, it doesn't recognize it. its also very wierd because even when I had physically disconnected the drive, it still showed that there was a drive connect in windows. it seems my mobo is reading it correctly though because it doesn't detect it when its disconnected (thankfully).

also, the media I tested it with works on another fdd, so I'm sure its either the thing itself or somethin with a driver or somethin

if you build your own computer, odds are you'd know who made your motherboard allowing you to get updates from em, and right now, I'm in a situation where I need to update my BIOS

^umm.... yeaaaa, pretty sure I have the right cable plugged in since the thing only came with one fdd cable. trust me, I've checked the connections and tested as much as I could. I just got it out to see who it was made by, and so now I'm gonna go to their site and see if I can get this worked out. And my mobo is made by Soltek, and their site is absolute crap. the page that displays the info about the model I have doesn't even exist anymore, soooo I think I'd be better off goin to the Alps site

That motherboard company isn't reputable, and why bother with FDD Anyway? IDE Optical drives are the way to go ...

Floppy drives will be around for ages. Although you can boot from a CD-ROM on a modern PC you still need a flooppy if you want to write some data from CMOS like BIOS.
