I think it's rediculous to ban gay marriage. I'm straight, and while I know only a few people well who are near my age and openly gay, I think that they are no different than everyone else except for their sexuality, and to discriminate them for that would be as if someone abused Tcon for being religious, or abused Real for his passion for coasters, etcetera etcetera. I can fully understand those who say that they oppose gay marriage due to religious beliefs, but even then why should they feel the need to ban marriage for those who happen to be gay. Just because it's different and "wrong" to them doesn't mean it should be eliminated. If everything viewed as "wrong" was eliminated in the world, the world would lose its beauty and become a very bland place. Hell, Amish think electricity is wrong, does that mean we should make using electricity illegal? Of course not, it's their beliefs, and they can choose not to use electricity and that's that. It's the same way with gay marriage: If people think it is wrong due to their religion or belief system, then they can choose not to be involved in gay marriages or relationships, but this doesn;t mean they should restrict gay marriage for others who's marriage would not affect them in any way.
Just my 2 cents. [:)]

IMO, i dont care about homosexual marriage, since there is a big lebsian population at my school about 10% of girls at my school are gay or bisexual(thats a guess not the exact number)[:(!] I knew some of those girls in middle school and they were striaght then. but once they stepped into high school, i guess they started exipermenting and they end up being hommosexual or bisexual (most lebsians in my school are beautiful too[V]). I dont care about gay marriage as long as it doesn't bother me I'm fine

The only reason the republican party is pushing this issue is because their desprate. They realize that the can no longer drum up enthusaism for a war in which over 2500 have died so they have decided to play the morality card. They fail to realize that the way things are going people will eventualy forget about this pointless crusade in the name of restoring a descriminatory and thankfully dead society and be more worried about their own well being then a law that dosent concern them.

PS. E-Man brought up a good point!

Can i just ask, as not too up on what is going on over there, but are they planning on making it legal to marry or have a civil ceremony to become life partners?? We've recently had the law changed in the UK, so same sex ceremonies can take place. They are not marriages. They cannot take place in a house of god. They don't have any religious content. They do not become husband/husband, or wife/wife, they become life partners. Since this has happened, we've had plenty of press coverage over Elton Johns ceremony etc, but it has had absolutely no effect on people at all. It doesn't go against the bible, as it is not an official marriage, but a way 2 gay people can show their love and commitment to each other, and from what I know, the gay community is fine with this.

As for people who reckon being gay is choice you make, all I will say is, have you ever looked at another man and had the urge to sleep with them, or been sexually aroused by the thought of sleeping with them? I doubt it, and i'm sure you would agree that no amount of media attention, or family upbringing is going to change that. You are born with your sexual attraction, which develops into your sexuality. If you have sexual attraction for both sexes, you can choose, otherwise you have no choice, just like you don't choose to be left or right handed. The only time media or family upbringing can affect it, is when you have attractions to both on some level, or you go totally against your feelings and be miserable and unhappy for the rest of your life.

ust because it's different and "wrong" to them doesn't mean it should be eliminated.

Exactly, just because its wrong to you, doesn't mean its wrong to the guy next to you. Just like its not right for some one to force thier religion down your throat, I don't think its right to force your beliefs down thiers. Which is why I'm against banning of gay marriage.

re: Do you guys think animals can be gay too? Because I think my dog might be!

There are several studies that show that animals of nearly every advanced species have homosexual members. It seems that the more 'advanced' the animal's brain, the more likely there will be homosexuals. Humans are the most likely to be gay, then primates, then 'lower' animals.

That seems to be a HUGE indicator that it isn't some "choice" or a product of messed up family life.

I also have a problem with people who say "I don't believe in gay marriage because I'm a Christian".

I'm a Christian. I see no problem with gay marriage. I have been to several "gay weddings" (non-legally binding, of course) IN MY CHURCH. So to say that you don't believe in it because you're a Christian doesn't hold with me. Say instead that you don't believe in it because YOUR particular denomination or congregation is against it and you side with them. Not all Christian churches agree with you.

Thank GOD my church doesn't use the Bible to condemn people for how they were born!

i'll admit that since i'm straight that i check out women and not men, but i don't really stand around watching other people make out. people who get all slobbery on each other in public just kinda lack any class, even if its two chicks.. besides those chicks you're talking about aren't really lesbians , probabaly stupid drunken sorority girls at a bar showing off for some guy with a nice car and a rolex. that isn't making out it's called a catfight.

Basically, I think two gay people should be able to have some kind of lifetime unity, but it should NOT be called marraige. The term "gay marraige" in itself, is redundant.

Do you deny black people marriages? It's essentially the same thing.

Well I just recently came out to alot of my friends, which was very hard and im catholic. Im the same human being as I was when people thought I was straight and I know that god still loves me for whoever I am. So if the gay marriage issues fall through, I wont really care because you don't really need to get married to show you love a person.

no.. it's not the same thing. not even in escence. not remotely. i do understand where you're coming from, but those of us who are not conservatives must also tolerate the rights of organizations that are. he just said, a few posts back that he would't STOP them from being married , but that he could not make exceptions to the vows he took, and the reasons he took those vows. ( know this.. i may not agree but it is a constitutional right to do so and with that i agree 100%) it's like asking a dentist to remove your appendix... that's not what he does.. he marries men to women, he can deny his services for any reason he likes, but his oath was to the teachings of the church he belongs to limits him to different sex marriage.. ... now to be fair i understand your point.. the whole debate right now has more to do (in my opinion) with an emboldened religious right being thrown a bone by people who know how to push their buttons, and enjoying that bone so much that they'll blindly vote for whoever threw it...but the church will always have a right to say no if they want, and if they want to, great, but they shouldn't be required to, we need to keep church and state separate. a judge, no matter WHAT his beliefs were would have to perform the ceremony, or take weddings out of his job description. yikes.. i'm babbling..
how do you feel about gay rollercoaster weddings?

I cannot believe I actually read that. To clarify for your own ignorance: If it is a one man and one woman wishing to be married, I will gladly marry them to each other with the proper state license in hand.

On another thought, I pray I get to be around you the day the light bulb comes on in your head and you actually get a clue. Because, in your present state you are certainly no shining light of intelligence to represent mankind. I see your lame view of trying to hint at my being prejudiced, but your overall stupidity lacks even the general ability to draw logical conclusions. Honestly ... I have pity on you.

In complete honesty, I despise them. Why?

Well, Father's Day at Cedar Point has become something of an annual "Gay Day". I kid you not. At any point within the park, you can see tons and tons of homosexual male couples enjoying eachother's company. I don't have much of a problem with this normally. A few years ago, however, I was waiting in line at Millennium Force. I had gotten up to the station and would have been on in several trains, but there was a couple ahead of us who had apparently planned a marriage on the coaster. Hence, I waited an extra fifteen minutes and wasn't particularly thrilled that my day had been delayed as such. Oh well. That's what a season pass is for.

On a side note, guys within driving distance of CP: don't waste your gas money showing up on Mother's Day. I was there then too... no lesbians in sight. [;)]

I question your christianity with that statement alone. It shows you completely miss the point of following Christ.
