This weekend, the Salt Lake Tribune had an long article on Magic Mountain:

http://www.sltrib.com/search/ci_4057143

It is interesting to see the Salt Lake paper picking this up. Seems Magic Mountain's potential demise is really starting to cause an uproar. Can't imagine them selling to developers as so many rides would be scrapped. Anyway, thought some of you might be interested in the article.

the irony is that the land where it is was initialy suposed to be a housing development, with magic mountain as it's center.. i remember hearing this back in the early 80's, wondering how far these people traveled to work.. , but at the time it just didn't attract anyone, even in the 90's there wasn't ANY real housing in the area, and the last time i cruised through on the bus it was startingto look like yorba linda did in the 80's..

i would be STOKED if busch bought it, they really know how to run a park.. of course this is a different monster than sea world, and some things might go "bye bye" but that's o.k.. there'd be BEER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Busch may buy it. Keep in mind that they used to have a theme park by where UCLA is, but it was turned into a brewery. Perhaps they would want to get a foothold in the West Coast market once again. /end optimism

sea world helped build it in the first place... and by the way i went to busch gardens in van nuys when i was little , lots of times.. it had a flume ride that went through an aviary.
now that the optimism is ended i'll point out a SAD truth. the housing market in southern california is still very lucrative.that land is perfect for suburban clone housing, and close enough to l.a. to attract buyers. for awhile there was a trend towards gentrifying older nieghborhoods (and destroying bohemias in the process)in larger cities and that's still going on, but that market was very limited, and it looks like they don't care about "urban sprawl" now that it's time to make more money. there's a very good chance that developers will out bid ANYONE for the land alone and get it..

Damn true. Like I said, it was just optimism. I'd rather not the face the reality of the real estate business. [:)]

I wouldn't put ANYTHING past Sux Flags at this point. They seem to be somewhat desperate for money. They sold Astroworld and bulldozed the TxCyclone with very little advance notice. If they can get money from the land that MM sits on, it's as good as gone.

The difference is that there are OTHER theme parks in the LA area to take up the slack. Those of us in Houston now have to drive to San Antonio or Dallas to get a coaster fix.
My body isn't a temple. It's an amusement park.

Awesome. Tatsu will fit much nicer in my back yard than at Magic Mountain, based on the reviews I've heard of the park.

B&M should buy it. It's practically a showcase of what the company can do.

How awesome would it be if they built tatsu somewhere else to be only 115 feet tall and then have pretzel just PLUMMET into a tunnel!

MM is one of SF's signature parks, i know (really hope) that they aren't going to sell it, and if they do, i will shoot (not kidding) whatever asshole love buys it.

looks like im pretty much killed in that case ;)

for seriously though, i really hope six flags doesn't sell MM... im sure other chains could take the park quite far, but it just needs that SF feel... not that SF is great or anything... but that park just... idk... needs it...

I certainly hope it doesn't get turned into houses though... i'd pretty much kill myself

^that's kinda old news...it wasn't because of financial problems, it was more like that the SFEurope parks didn't bring huge profits, like expected
