Hey I just thought I would start a topic on the subject of legalizing [CENSORED WORD]. In my opinion why havent we legalized it already? It has so many uses. It can treat cancer, and many other diseases. There are no signs of long-term use affects and it is harmless. It has been used to date over about 10,000 years ago, over 30 million U.S citizens use it regulary and the prohibition that the government is putting out to illegalize it is costing us over 30 billion a year. I dont know about you but 30 billion dollars a year is a crapload. The cost of legalizing is would be 10 million a year, a dramatic difference.

Alcohol was illegalized in 1922. Another instance in which prohibition has failed. In 1933 it was legalized and has become a very common drink around the U.S. Same with [CENSORED WORD] prohibition isnt working they need to legalize it already so we can stop the drug trafficing that is costing the U.S way more money than it should. Sure there are going to be people that are going to disagree. Many, many people die a year from alcohol poisoning. How many people die from the use of [CENSORED WORD]? Exactly zero people. So why shouldnt [CENSORED WORD] be legal? Sure I will even agree it is a gateway drug, but that is up to the person to make the self conscious decisions that they have to make with experimenting. But why is the subject of being a gateway even in this debate? We are dealing with the fact of just [CENSORED WORD] not any other drug. If we legalize [CENSORED WORD], we reduce the black market and the violence associated with the sale of [CENSORED WORD], furthermore the debt will be much lower in the government. So as you can tell I am for legalizing [CENSORED WORD] what about you?

I say make it legal if the prices don't go up. [:D]

Even if the prices go up or down, it would still be a better option then not legalizing it.

I'm not sure I want it legalized, but I do think that the laws on it needs to be seriously cut back. As it stands now you can be arrested and out in jail for having a joint, Honestly, that's ridiculous. I believe Canada's laws limit the legal amount to possess, but if you're caught with anything more THEN you get arrested. I'd say that'd be a far more feasible way to go against it. Because then you're encouraging people to have less, reducing the amount distributed, and only going after those who choose to act as if they are above the law.

Legalization would likely lead to government control of the [CENSORED WORD] market and henc higher prices and likely corruption. I say keep it as is, anyone who is stupid enough to get caught with weed probably deserves to go to jail anyways.

Well, from the my work experience point of view they should make that plant extinct. it reaks havoc on my nerves dealing with people that come in so high off their ass and try to start poop with me for no reason and when they come in not high they can't remember what happened or the fact that they were even there. I see the effects it has on people psychologically first hand and I hate it.

Please enlighten me to which cancer it treats. The only disease it actually does anything for is glaucoma, as far as I know.

The main reason [CENSORED WORD] is not legalized is because Alchohol and Tobacco companies don't want competition from a drug that any one can grow in their backyard. Alchohol and tobacco require sofisticated production methods and equiptment. Anyone with reasonable gardening experiance can grow [CENSORED WORD]. It's all about the $$$$$$$$$

Why not legalize it. The government could control its use, have specifiaclly designed weed farms (so you wont get laced weed), and tax the stuff. Im surprises they havent done it already.

^the mayor or major, (how do you spell it?) of Maastricht, a dutch city wanted to legalize everything with weed, so far, you can have weed, smoke weed, and sell weed in a coffeeshop, but you can't grow weed, and coffeeshops aren't allowed to buy weed, because it's illegal to grow....

anyway this mayor/major wanted to legalize it, so the gouvernment could control it like achohol and tobacco. In the end, large firms will eventually rise above the smaller farms and there you have it, drugs (in this case, weed) will be sold and consument just like sigarettes and beer

[CENSORED WORD] cures cancer as well as herion cures aids

I dont care either way really, if the whole country decides to becomes stoners then that's thier problem. If the government can come up with a fool proof plan to make money out of it, then of course it will be legalised

People that have cancer dont use it to treat the cancer, they use it to relieve pain. there are many reasons why it isnt legal in the u.s. mainly like people have said with government controlling it and competition with alcohol and tobacco companies. i dont see what the big deal about it is, you cant overdose so. but if the gov controlled it you wouldnt have a good chance of getting screwed over with it being crappy, or laced like bigboy_1234567 said. people always say all this stuff that weed does to you, and a lot isnt true. how would they really know what it does if they've never done it. in a health book at my high school it shows a picture of what it looks like when high. i think they mean when your trippin off acid or something.

I agree with everybody about why it should be legalized, but if it is, eventually so many more people will start doing it and be high at places they shouldnt be, like at work. A lot of things would get pretty messed up.

But still, i dont care either way.

It should be legalized. If people, me not being one of them, wants to be high all the time, so be it! It shouldn't be the government's choice to say that people can not smoke weed. Making it illegal does not mean people will stop doing it.

don't you think anyone would notice someone being high, it might seem that i'm a little repetative with comparing it with being drunk. But would your supervisors approve it if you came walking into your office as drunk as a lamppost?

a lot of my friends and people i know smoke, and they are all really smart, and still are. smoking hasnt ever made people dumber like a lot of people think, unless they do a lot all the time. i agree with the fact that going to work high would probably be a problem because not much would get done. a lot of places where it is legal, it's only allowed to be smoked in certain places and you can only have so much at a time on you. as other people have said it's like going to work drunk. you can tell when someone is drunk better than you can high sometimes. but there are different levels of being intoxicated. the more you drink, eventually you'll start throwing up everywhere whereas smoking, you cant od.
