Can someone help me out with object textures.

I've tried to make my own, i've gone through the help pages, and even searched posts on here- yet none of them quite cover it.

I simply want to make my own textures, like 'staff only' signs. Or coaster images etc. I make them on paint and photoshop (these packages were advised in other help posts). Then i save them in the recomended format, eg. .jpg .gif .tga etc. Then i save them in the 'objtexture' folder then re-open the package so the new textures are initiated.

Yet while loading it says that they failed to load.

Its because your textures arent the right size. They need to be 128/256/512/1024 etc pixels wide/high. The Object creator doesnt read anything but those standard image size numbers.

Edit: I think anyway [:p]

Oh by the way, your image sizes can be a combination of numbers like 256 x 512, they dont just have to be square (i may have made it sound like that before)

well can i make it any more square than that? so far it makes a bit of a stretched rectangle- which is quite awkward.

edit: excellent that works pretty well! thanks

fyi, 32, 64 pixes work as well. 32-1024 is the allowed limit in the OC.

You can just use the textures in the OC as references. The actual textures used on the 3ds objects in the sim can be any dimensions. (I think, I haven't tested it that much)

if you wanna make your own textures, but say the thing you're texturing is a lot wider than a bit size, just make it as if you were taking that wide texture and squeezing it together temporarily... kinda hard to imagine, but its how it works. I'm bad at examples I know

Not really. These "power of 2" texure sizes actually resulted out of the history of OpenGL. So in case you're running a graphics card with OpenGL drivers not supplying the latest standards, you might run into problems showing any "non-standard" textures. If I had a card like that, and would experience textures/objects not showing up because of this effect, I'd only make the ride's designer responsible for that and neither OC nor NL nor whatever else.

So better do care & keep safe and stick to these "power of 2 squares".

just my "2"
