Helping my friend with some upgrades...

So, my friend wants to upgrade his comp, basically buy a new one. My only dilemma in helping him is:

Which way do I go on the processor? AMD or Intel?

Right now, it seems to me that Intel's ahead in terms of who's got the better gaming stuff. However, it seems like since Intel is doing all this, that in a few years, it will be a repeat of how AMD beat Intel with their Athlon64 line.

So, which way should I go?
