the second trip to oakwood in a few weeks for me but the first for englich coaster guy and his bro.
we started in corwall at ECG's hotel at 5:30am ready for the 4 hour jurney to oakwood. it was 220miles by road but only 70miles as the crow flys, its so not fair.
we arrived at oakwood at 9:50am with the carpark fairly empty.
standing in the que matt the magician came out to entertain us on his stilts jugeling balls.
aftert entering the park we started with the bobsleds and being the first people in the park and it having rained the night before the track was very slippy and the ride was very fast causing danny (ecg's bro) to fall of in the middle of the ride.
as soon as that ride was done we headed over to speed. as before there was no que whatsoever. the ride itself standsout over all of the park dominating the southen view. the first drop offers some awsome flooter air all the way down. then comes the most brilliant airtime hill ever offering upwards of -1G for 3-4 seconds. then the over bank turn offers perfect flooter and then diving back down into the forsefull loop again with more flooter air at the top before being flung to the side on the outwards banked turn into the mid-corse breaks. these breals dont do anything after which you hit a small pop of airtime and the heartlined roll and then the final turn and the "horizontal loop",AKA high G helix. all in all we rode it 8 times thought the day with the first time being 5 re-ides at the start of the day.
then on the way to megaphobia we decided to ride the waterfall. a small water ride where you sit on small plastic sledges and fly down a drop and skid across the water down below. when you sit at the to the ride-op tells you to lean forward all the time. me ang ECG got by fine but when danny came down he lent back and got bounced in the air putting one of his legs in the water up to this knee and just made it to the end without falling in. it was one of the most halairous sites ever seen and even the ride-op at the bottom of the ride was in stiches.
eventually we got to megaphobia. its very well hidden from the park but when you down the entranceyou get the most wonderful view of the first drop swooping past the lake. again there was no que for it and we got sraight on the back row. this was a very bad idea as its worse than being hit in the balls with a sledge hammer. the ride itself is full of airtime on every drop and bunnyhill and fill of lats on the turns. in the front cars its a very enjoyable coaster as we found out later on in the day but the back row needs to be avoided.
after a fantastic ride on megaphobia we headed to bounce. a surpising huss shot and drop tower. good posertives on the shot with a few bounces before seting down and rapidly climbing to the top again for some quite forseful airtime on the drop as its pulled down.
and of corse we cannot forget the treetops coaster. the best kiddie rollercoaster ever built twisting throught the trees very close, however the train is way to lona and tby the time it starts to pickup speed the front of the train is at the bottom of the first drop. unfortunetally we didnt re-ride it as it had funny opening times opening every hour for half-an-hour.
then came hydra. the scaryest ride in creation. its a water coaster standing napproximatly 160ft with a near vertical drop. its got a very slow lift and the turn is very bumpy and it flys quite quickly over the top of the drop. all the way down there is massive flooter air and the end of the drop is never visable becaus as you reach the vertical your then blinded by water as it hits the water with such a forse sending alot of water into the bridge over the splash area (which we unfortunetally felt the forse of as we got in the wrong place to miss the water). it is by far the wettest ride in the uk if not the world. as we were so wet we re-rode straight away.
the rest of the day was filled with re-rides and smaller rides adding up to a spectacular park visit before the start of heading home.
we planned on a hotel but stupidly didnt book one anywhere and we ended up in a place called porth carwl. we got a fantastic room in the pier hotel. it was above a bar with a sink, telly, open wardrobe and 3 beds. 1 was as hard as a door, 1 was so soft if you slept off center you fall out and the other was broken. anyway back on topic. after grabing a kebab we headed to coney island amusement park (AKA pat evens fun fair). when we got in we were surprised that the sign on the front read all rides 50p for end of season. first we started on a chance morgan revelution 20. very forseful ride with some good airtime. then a surprise of a prifari RC50 which rocked. really we all enjoyed it if not a bit painful around the jaw area. it had some good drops and the trains were so heavy it picked up speed so fast. we also rode some of the coolest ever looking dodgems, some thunder bobs which were very fast and nearly broke my ribs and a tidal wave thing which lasted ages and made me and ecg feel sick.
all in all it was a very good trip which everyone enjoyed. there would of been many pics but the batterys in my camera didnt charge propely and the park was compleatly sold out of AA batterys.
