I've recently started a Storm Runner (yes i'm starting again) recreation, and I dont know how they managed the negative g's on the tophat. If I go 72 mph, and the tophat is 150 feet, i get like -3.1 g's. What did I do, and or what they do??[confused]

EDIT: Topic name changed and read on for updates.

A wider top hat? Are you using 1.6 physics? You will most likely get a bit faster than IRL too, although it's pretty powerful IRL, I'd say around -1.3 to -1.5

And make it like 154 feet, or a little higher, since IRL it's not even excactly 150 feet, it may be a bit off.

Good Luck!

Basically if you've got too much force then the curve has too tight a radius, you just need a less sudden change of direction, thats why drops on bigger coasters have longer pullouts. Also look at the general shaping of it, at the first and last bits you're going faster and don't have so much gravity balancing out ur negatives of so they're more gently sloped too.

I know that much. For it to not have g;s it has to look like it is wider than normal. Real can probably answer this one right. Here is all that stats I have on it so far: station to Launch from 10 above a 30 tall hill. This is so it can make the 180ft drop "below" the ground from 150 ft high. Im getting too many g's..... Idk what I am doing.

If you look at pictures of it, there really isn't any "straight" vertical section of the turn, it's more like the valley of the hill, and then it quickly snaps you 90????????? to the left and immeaditaely begins the intense tophat.

Image

Also notice how it is shaped more like a teardrop so that as the speed decreases, the negative G's stay pretty constant. This keeps the G's at an acceptable level and allows for continous air.

I figured it out! My hill was 30 feet short. Here is how: I raisd the ground 30 feet since you cant go underground/below grnd level. So the laund was roughly 35 feet above the ground level, and 5 feet above the raisd mound. My top hat was 150 above ground level, when it should be 180 because of the exta 30 foot mound. so it is 180 above ground level, and the correct 150 above the mound which will cover a lot of the landscape. Anybody followin me?

^wtf? So now I am at another issue. The trackwork is finished. I need to AHG it. There is the problem. JimmiYoshi's tutorial didnt help. This is what is happening no matter what color i change the track:

And I say again: No MATTER WHAT color I pick the spine, it goes this way. Whats going on?

BTW: who wants to test? Only test if you know FOR SURE you will give very sufficient advice and critisizem.

You did save before right? The problem is that the AHG is trying to keep the G's positive for the color you've selected, so you can only select the segments that actually have air that color, otherwise AHG may flip it to make air occur.

Ill test. I have before and ill give u any problems to fix and also to AHG it i think it cant be completely vertical. I AHGed Hypersonic XLCs vertical top hat thing and i made it not completely vertical and it came out fine.

the tophat of XLC is the straightest you'll ever find, heartlining a station would have had more effect

UPDATE: The trackwork is pretty much completely finished. Here are the stats:
RCDB Info is where I got the real stats vs mine.

Track Length:
-Real: 2,600 feet
-Mine: 2,601 Feet

Speed:
-Real: 72 mph in 2 seconds
-Mine: 72 mph in 2 seconds

Duration:
-Real: 50 seconds
-Mine: 51.2 seconds

I was really surprised the first time I looked at the stats to find it was almost perfect. The Support and Terrain Stage is now beginning. Should I post pics?

BTW, the supports are going to almost replicate the real one's. Just FYI.

Testers wanted; Email adress.

Hmm... oh hay "When you have airtime, and want airtime, you need to color the top of that hill black because the AHG will bank for positive vertical Gs. "

"
- Watch out for vertical sections, they can cause problems, especially if colored black. This is true for loops and top hats. Try and make nodes not on perfect vertical, but slightly less."
