$1.65 billion, wow (that's $1,650,000,000). I'm just hoping that they don't try to change too much about the site, it's been doing just fine the way it is.

They freakin would. But they said that they won't change anything about it, but I expect to see more "ad" based videos popping up now.

According to public records, Google's 2005 Net Income was $1.47 billion! If I were to guess, a lot of their funds come from the advertisements that show up on the edges of the browser every time you do a search!

Watch, soon we will be having to sit through a 30 second video on some ad before the one thing we want comes up. Man, that will truly suck. Google are so worried about competition that they strive to run it all, most likely because thier own "Google Video" section sucks ... so why not go out and buy the one that works? Morons.

google does a lot of things to get them money. like you can pay them to make your site a higher priority and they also sell servers that can like index everything in a network.

You bet, my friend can't even tell me how much his brother (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jawed_Karim) is getting from the deal, and he says he barely even owns any of the YouTube stock since he doesn't officially work there anymore. We figured even if he only owns 1% of the stock that's still $16,500,000 (and he might have even more than that, who knows?)

OK. So what on Earth does Google not own now? I need to stick my hands into whatever that is and get a chunk of change for myself.

WWS, I think we need to have a staff discusion about selling the worlds premier online theme park simulation website to Google for hundreds of millions of dollars and open a real theme park (or just fillout our pockets a bit more)!

You-tube, a simple uploading site ran by a couple guys in the neighbourhood, gets bought for 1.47 BILLION DOLLARS!??!?! If there are ten guys its still 147 million EACH, I did not think youtube was anywhere NERA worth that much, I am sure they could have bought it with 1.47 million, a billion dollars is such a large amount of money... wow.

lol there is no way youtube is worth that much. I really hope google doesnt change anything, the reason i use youtube over google video is all format things.

But seriously, how does Google make their huge profit? It can't all be from stocks. Google pours millions into advertisising on other sites, in newspapers, even on billboards! I really don't understand this concept. I am very knowledgeable about mercantilism and the various forms of economy, but I really don't understand how websites make money! (I mean...wws = donations, but there is no way that google could get THAT many donations)

Also...don't sell wws. Wait until wws REALLY skyrockets, maybe it will after they make Nolimits 2.0 or something. But seriously...dont sell wws now.

ALSO>>>Google does not make their money from advertising. They SPEND money on advertising. They pay wws for advertising space (and if they are not paying then you got seriously ripped off wws!)

Last I checked, a majority of Google's profits do come from advertisement. That is, other companies and websites buying advertising space on Google so that their links appear when people search for the proper keywords. Google may be an online search engine, but economically speaking it is an advertising company. Here's an interesting article on the subject:

Weird when I go to google and I search my name RRollergod... or my sites name cocobunny, links always pop up. RRollergod has its own 3-4 pages of info ans my site is like on the last pages(There are lots on links when you search cocobunny[lol]). The funny thing is I never paid them?!? Or did I?[lol]

I'm actually kinda glad to see Google buying out sites like youtube and possibly putfile/imageshack because it's like Starbucks buying out local coffee places, except without the Starbucks part (thank God).

Me too. I don't know why people are complaining about them selling out. If some large company offered you that much money would you refuse? Hell no!
