Yes this has been rumored and most likely reported several different occasions from other people and the press. For those who don??????t know a brief intro:

Six Flags Magic Mountain has run into some fiscal economic losses for the last years (due to problems from gangs to security problems). Now one the heads of the Six Flags is putting it on the ??????chopping block,?????? so to speak. So now some real estate developers are planning to equally purchase the park, destroy it, and yes create some new (in the middle of no where, bad conditions, and not to mention expensive) homes.

Anyways so I have herd from a close friend that works at the park, that they were called to a meeting about the parks grim future. Well it seems that they are supposed to get their ??????pink slips?????? at the end of the year, and the park goes bye-bye. However Valencia (or is it Santa Clarita) have tried to keep the park for internal revnue and won??????t stop trying. The last thing they want are these homes. I believe this could be it for Magic Mountain but I hope not. If it does happen though, I guess we will lose out on one most deverse parks in Six Flags history.

Remember this is still a alternative resource to the parks closeing, so what happens from this might be proved different in the future.

Actually, old Danny boy has not made any comments of support for MM. As of his last investor phone call, it was still for sale. I think if the price is right, the park could very well still be sold. I have to believe that the park will not be scrapped as if it was run with any sort of passion, it would be very successful. This off season should be very interesting for Six Flags.

I wish this was true but, unfortunately their maintenance on their rides have been lax big time; from about July 2005 to about last month when I went there. The parking rate has shot up to about $15, I believe. Also knowing how these real-estate developers work, they really don't care for public uprising; so of course they want to keep it hush till the park officially shuts down. Plus you have to think about the share holders they are getting pretty shaky when it comes down to the problems within the park (but yes it's starting to clean up it's act). I know it seems impossible for one park like MM to shut down, but its history has not been all that glamorous either.

I'm still doubtful. I'll believe it when I see it. Its very possible that they may just close down for the winter season which is why your friend would be issued a pink slip.

But all of those rides [:(]

They best save them, too bad though, Knott's will be the only decent park on the West Coast.

I know this has been a standing nagosiation about what to do whith MM but when I was there in early July the park was running beutifuly. The only thing that EVER was closed was Sky Tower which had not opened if 5 years but to my suprise they opended it later on and it stayed open for the remainder of my 3 day MM stay. It was only a 3 day stay because I still had Knott's and Disneyland to hit.

It's not gonna happen, period. If the Real Estate market were still climbing at the rate it was when this rumor/news began, I'd maybe considering it a possibility, but given the recent end to the climb in the real estate market and the fact that the park has been packed lately, I don't see this happening at all.

NO! It can't be torn down. I haven't visited it yet and it's one of my idol parks that's a must-get-to-before-I-die type of thing for me! Even though I'm certain it won't be torn down anytime soon, I think it shouldn't be torn down at all, even though they won't have a choice...

Phew, at least i'm going August of this year...I think...Anyways, i really hope they don't knock it down and just build some homes. If they're going to sell it, i'd hope that the park would still be there, just not run by Six Flags anymore. But to see it get scrapped would be horrible...all the coasters!!

Well They have stopped restocking all thier MM merchandise, and they have completely given up on X (anybody seen them fixing it lately) which has been closed for months. I don't know what the fate is. They are still selling passes though... So we should have at least another year left.
