I found this while looking around wikipedia, thought I'd post it here. It sounds like a pretty weird idea, but I guess they need a quick way out of the area in case of an emergency.

Haha yeah whats the point of adding inversions if it's only for emergency. Chances are, if it had to be used, the astronauts wouldn't be in the best situation.

unfortuneetly not, one of the rules of the record breaking roller coaster according to the guinnes world records it that it must be open to the publc.

great idea thought you wont get away quicker than that and if the rocket is exploding...... what a ride[:D]

also what if ws going to explode while they were strapped into the suttle?, would take them 10 mins to get out.

ohh and by the way i have a book called the worst case scienareo for life, and the precidure for a plane crash is (quote)"do up your belt, inflate your life jacket put your head between your knees and kiss your bum goodbye."

and the ride op wouldnt do a properjob of checking all the suff anyway? none ever do[:D], found one of mine last year not checking retraints and just despating the appocolypse cars, rest ashured he was reported and sacked within 20 mins and off the ride in less than 30 seconds

I don't think it's for an explosion, they might be worried about a chemical leak from the engine or something. If there's an explosion there's probably not much anyone can do.

not more screwed than when there isn't a coaster around. And i think that if this thing's gonna be build, they'd prolly make the car already on a sort of predrop, and a handbreak in the car itself, so it can operate without electricity

Actually, hyyyper's explanation sounds perfectly logical. If the controls were in the car itself, it would save much time getting in and operating it with handbrakes. Sounds like a cool idea...I mean, what idea that involves a roller coaster isn't!?

Say the controls are in the coaster, or the NASA computer team controls it, either way, if it fails to go, does somebody get out and push? Sucks to be him unless you run REALLY fast, and are able to do up the restraint.

Haha...we're all talking about every single possible flaw...I mean c'mon guys! It's NASA. I know they've have craft accidents before, but this seems like they would have it all worked out.

Duh. I was kidding, of course. Maybe it was dumb, but I would hope you have the common sense to understand that I wasn't serious.[:)]

like i said, put the 'station' on an incline, just like those old wooden coaster stations, so that once you release the handbrake, gravitiy will do the rest, and a handbrake is mechanical, so even with a total electrical disaster, the coaster should work

American op's at BGT just brush the restraint to see if its locked.
Here they slam them into you, and yank a whole load of things, hurts like hell. [lol].

But really, i dont think there will be a ride op.
