I need your opinion for one of my upcoming coasters.

Also, just to let you know, I went ahead and went with the straight drop!

This was hard... i love the drop on all the batmans, and raptor... But then again Raging bulls and Mantis's drop are pretty sweet too.

GAHH CSTREAK WHY MUST YOU HAVE ME ANSWER THIS!!!??? It was terribly hard, but in the end I went with straight drop. Kraken, Mantis, and Scorcher were both great for airtime. Raptor, Kumba, and Montu were fun too, VERY FUN (I'm big a fan on the quick whipping turn drops) but I guess turning drops got overruled after I went on Alpengeist...aboslutely no contest!!!

Raptor - Inverted, NOT a floorless

Are you sure you read the question?

Straight drop. Hydras airtime drop owns any turning drop. Why? Because you dont get enough airtime on rides like that anyways.


^Gerst, if you sit in the back, far right seat on Raptor, you get a nice dose of airtime on the drop. ;)

Predrops own. Those who said "no predrop" needs to get on Apollo's Chariot or Raging Bull. Ridden those and Nitro, and both of those drops are definately superior to Nitro's for back row airtime and general awesomeness. Who wants a slow onset of very weak ejector when you can have a very quick and surprising blast of medium ejector followed by some of the most perfectly sustained floater air ever? Nitro's drop is good, but not close to those other two.

just like i answered on c2k: Predrop for the floorless type. In the back you'd seriously get a nice amounth of airtime then. Good for the coasterfreaks [:)]

I agree with Dcs, you haven't lived until you've ridden a B&M hyper in the backrow with a predrop.

Rode Bull, even in back seat the predrop didnt add anything over Hydra's drop. Infact, I think the airtime might have been slightly more intense on Hydra because its smaller and the radius was much smaller.

I think with the longer trains and larger hills you just get more floater, not nessicarily more intense airtime. I am 100% certain that AC is way better than RB (RB = my biggest let down) but I still prefer going from a very slow speed to a very quick acceleration over the predrops.

Anticipation never did much for me. Kinda hard to not anticipate it when you can watch each row go before you, lol.

The thing that makes RB's drop better than Hydra's is the higher initial speed over the edge (from the predrop, and the even higher speed in the back from the 9th car and zero car) and the ridiculously tight radius at the top. Shot of airtime followed for perfect float on a drop that's much much longer than Hydra's, and end's with a tunnel too. You've even got the hill over the drop to accentuate the dropping feeling. Hydra may have stronger airtime, but compared to something like a good Intamin drop, it's weak and short, and offers nothing new or different, or better. Apollo's Chariot's drop can hold it's own against drops as great as Millennium Force's, or El Toro's. I know you don't like MF for it's "slow onset of negatives" but that's even more of a reason why I don't understand how you can like Hydra's drop over RB.

I think watching the rows go over the edge adds to anticipation too. It's even better with AC because the predrop flat track is really long. Almost like a slight launch before dropping 210 feet. On drops with no predrop, you can see the cars before you start to curve downwards, but it's just a gradual thing as I've found on Nitro.

^Again, we are talking B&M, not Intamin. You can talk about Intamins and B&M's in an appropriate topic ;)

Not always does duration overpower pure power. Some instances yes, but I am more of a sudden G person. Tis why I lean to traditional wooden coasters more than anything else. Id rather have the extreme pop of G followed by sustained, not a gradual climb. Gradualness (word?) always decreases the intensity of a given element. Isnt this why alot of B&M's arent faves compared to their earlier designs? Time of transition is a big deal, at least to me.

But RB's drop was the best part of the ride, but still wasnt that great. My very first ride was even back seat. Severely disappointing ride it is...

If Steven Colbert can add a "yness" to truth, then I'm sure its just as acceptable to add ness to gradual.

Though for me, I couldn't tell you. I haven't been on a B&M that doesn't have a pre-drop (Save shiekra, but I'm not exactly sure that counts). Though I will say that the drops on Medusa(West) and Kraken were great and had a nice ammount of air time in the back row, though kraken's drop was better over all, imo. But it would be interesting to compaare kraken's drop to AC and Hydra's as well

You completely missed what I said about Intamin because my point was more that your statements seem to be contradicting themselves. MF's air is only ok because it's gradual, yet RB's is very sharp and you like the more gradual air of Hydra better? Doesn't make much sense to me.

My other point was that Hydra isn't exactly "pure power" at all, so I just don't think it's weak ejector could be more thrilling than the same ejector followed by perfect floater for around 2-2.5 seconds. Plus, B&M lapbars > their OTSR's.

Restraints in this case dont make much difference. Floater is floater IMO. And since theres no rotation, you arent touching any of them. Infact, I get more stapled in the B&M lapbars (which still own) than I do OTSR's.


RB just didnt do anything for me in any way shape or form. The drop was the only good part and it wasnt even that great.

Its a smooth ride though.

Ride in the back. I do agree it is a trimmed waste aside from that drop. But it does have one hell of a drop in the back seat.
