right now the 360 and the PS3 are basically equal. and let me just say I'm not leaning one way or the other.

1- for $200 onto the price of either 360 package you get an HD player, which is already included in the ps3 and it's price (either way you get $500/$600) and you get a more powerful HD player for the same price with the PS3
2- their cpu speeds are basically the same and doesn't matter how many cores they have yet because no one's programming specifically for either one.
3- the 360 is getting a revision sometime in this new year anyway adding a 120gb hard drive, HDMI for full 1080p output and a 65nm processor as opposed to 90nm making it more efficient in terms of power and thus cooler.

along the lines of the Wii, I really think they could've done a better job if they had just gone to $300 or $350 and made it a little more powerful. I know thats one of the reasons they've always been so popular, but I mean really who wants the same old thing in new packaging? That's also why I feel bad for the millions who buy one and don't realize they're just buying a gimmick gamecube. In fact, at E3, the one's on display were hidden because they were just gamecubes with Wii remote add-ons

Hey pat don't dig on the wii like that, I just got my PS3 like a week ago, and it's definately overrated and overpriced. I have madden and call of duty 3 and I just got bored of those after two hours, and I watched talladega nights on blue ray and thats all I did, needless to say I went back to playing madden and zelda on my Wii. And Gears of war on my 360, needless to say, I still play my wii quite a bit, I think it's awesome! And actually it's been getting much better reviews than the PS3 and 360, and how can you say its a gimmich gamecube, that's a load of bull. I mean I went to Target today they had 23 PS3's in stock, and no Wii's. Noone is buying PS3's anymore, and they've not even been out two months! There overpriced, and Sony is loosing money for every one made. And they wont lower their prices anymore because they would loose more money. But what I have to say is, Wii is by far my favorite, and then Xbox 360. PS3 isn't bad, but it's definately not worth 600 dollars. Nintendo made wii for families that want gaming entertainment without spending a mortgage payment.

Obviously the PS3's are cooling down much faster than expected. They are still somewhat rare to find. eBay shows that you can get Buy It Now PS3's for only 700-800 bucks - only a couple hundred over retail which is consistant with the Wii.

Infact, Ive heard two stories of two different stores in my area in which both places got 6 60GB versions and they sat in the stores for at least 3-4 days before anyone bought them. Then, it took another 4-5 days before those 6 were gone.

My conclusion is the same one from before - too expensive, not enough games and not enough BlueRay Discs/1080p TV's out there. Infact, I think we still have one sitting at Meijers.

On the flip side, we sell out of 360's that we get every week and we are almost wiped out of Wii products - even games - even though weve gotten them in twice as often as PS3 stuff.

So I dont think the PS3 is "widely available and easy to get" unless you go eBaying which it is. Otherwise, we still dont get them in as often as the 360 (Nintendo has shunned us, lol) but seeing them sit on the shelves for as long as they did, not only at my store but another competitor store tells me that the interest just isnt there.

Has Sony gambled too early in the game? I think they may have. Only time will tell.

Well, since the PS3 is now widely availabe and easy to get if you have the resources to buy one, it is of course the best and most loved system out there. I guess since a lot of stores are having trouble selling their PS3's, it is a great sign that it is a GREAT system. I mean, who wouldn't want a system with only one GOOD game. Those controllers are just so innovative. They have mOTioN SenSInG OmGSS DuDE!11!!! I mean really, what an original idea! Adding motion sensing as a last minute thing. I mean, who knew that was what another company's system was about?

That Nintendo Wii..it is terrible! You can't even find one! Nintendo is aweful at keeping them in stock. (wonders why people have been camping outside of stores for nearly two months) It isn't even HD! I don't want to move when I am gaming! Why would anyone want to be put more into a game? I mean, who would want to be able to sword fight with no real risk? What a stupid idea!

The 360 is just stupid. It's not even HD. It only runs in 720p. The PS3 is in 1080p oMGZ!1!! Stewped Micrrasoft. The games just look better than anything else out there, what were they thinking? Who wants to pay $400 for a system with incredible looking games when you can pay $600 for one that plays pretty good looking games? There really isn't anything even new about it. It just brought gaming into the HD era. Naw, nothin new.

[/end sarcasm]

^You talk about people not siding with a certain company and you type up a day and half of text about how good the PS3 is. [sarcasm]I am with you. I hate fanboys![/end sarcasm]

come on man, you dont know me or anything so are you honestly going to tell me that i prefer a make. i stated i dont, for people who dont know me, that should be enough.

i would hardly call myself anything in relation to a fanboy of any makes, i bought the gamecube at its release, but i just bought my first ps2 less than a year ago.

i played all three systems, and i found that the ps3 was the best. end of story, if you dont like it then thats all you, im not there to decide that for you.

I want all three systems; I have an Xbox 360 and a PS3 so far.

The Wii is more powerful then the original Xbox (Fact). The game play for it is interesting and you don't have to move around to play its games, they have settings to change the Wii-mote into a normal controller.

The PS3 is cool because it can do more things at once. It has its flaws (Example: You can't download more then one thing at a time, and well it is downloading you can't do anything.), but these can be fixed with a driver/OS update like they did on the Xbox 360.

The Xbox 360 will be updated soon with version 2.0 (Link for those who didn't see it a couple posts above: http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/05/the- ... me-zephyr/).

Some say I sound like a fan boy for the Xbox but I like all 3 consoles, I've just had the Xbox longer.

Also Gears of War on the Xbox is what I consider the best game ever made. (That is my opinion; I would rather not debate it.)

I don't have a Wii so I can't say much on it right now.

^SEE, Thats what I mean. If you don't have a wii, then don't say anythiung about it. I have all three systems, and Wii and Xbox 360 beat out PS3 by a longshot. PS3 wouldnt be so bad if it were 350 dollars, but spending 600 dollars on a system, that is ourtrageous! And for the things and does and the games it has at the moment, it is definately not worth it. Like I said before PS3 isn't a bad system at all, its just overpriced and overrated IMO. I cn seriously stay on my Wii and Xbox live all day and Play zelda and Gears of war, without even touching my PS3.

Anyone here trying to get that Halo3 beta? If so, I think we should trade SN's or something so we can improve eachothers' chances of getting it, since the registration link isn't up yet and pretty much anyone who expects to have a chance is refreshing madly right about now. Let me know if you are, and I'll PM you my SN so we can notify eachother or something.

Since the PS3 and Xbox 360 are the only comparable consoles here I'll start with Processing power. The PS3 has 1 "Main CPU" that the 7 "Support Processors" use. This means that PS3 could be able to use alot more processing power but it will bottleneck because of only 1 "Main CPU" that all the information is finally processed through. Then there is the problem w/ the 256MB RAM that is accessed by the game to load textures and levels (graphics card) while there is 256MB for other processes. ~24mb is taken for the desktop and so on causing really 200mb to be readily available for gameplay when is needed. With 8 processors utilizing only 200mb of RAM could mean a number of bad things for gameplay and graphics. The graphics card is also less powerful than the Xbox 360's, but it wont really effect graphics on a small scale, but when it comes to loading and how much detail they can put into a big area, the PS3 would have choppy framerates. The Blu-ray DVD inside allows for larger games and more HD detail be put in the game. Allows for faster loading and transfer from the Disc to the Processor and Graphics Card.

On a 360 note it has a standard DVD-9 drive thats standard in most computers now. It has a considerably slower loading speed but since the processor and graphics card can load as fast as it sends, it seems atm Xbox games load faster than PS3. The Xbox 360 has a unified architecture for ram/processing/gfx that allows all 512mb of memory to be used by all functions when needed. In the PS3 a pool of 100mb could be sitting doing nothing while the rest of the system is lagging because it has ran out. The Xbox 360 does not have that problem. The Xbox 360 having less processing power means less gameplay and less things happening on screen at once. If your into a massive amount of bullets flying and players AI, the ps3 can handle that whilst the Xbox 360 is more graphicly stable. The xbox 360 is also 200$ Less and I have one and plan on getting PS3. Xbox live is a great service and I've heard about some problems w/ Ps3 at the start, but they have mostly been resolved w/ patches. The xbox 360 also uses less of its memory on side applications such as the desktop meaning more is available for gaming. Not Dissing on PS3 or anything but atm the xbox 360 is dominating the console race in Games out and future potential. The PS3 has alot of potential but it's seeing most of its past (Console specific great games) becoming multiconsole games. They are losing money, if they stick in the race till PS4, and dont chuff up so bad again, their technology they are using now could be set in concrete and maybe 1 gig of ram will be real cheap by then!

MY thoughts on the Wii. I DONT LIKE IT, very boring after like an hr.

^^^ that's why I didn't get a Wii. I knew I'd get bored with it after a while. I mean it's fun, but I like darker games, and there is a much wider selection of games on the PS3/360 level that suite my tastes.

Wii is generally good if you're A: a little kid, B: a nongamer, or C: not too much into serious games. Graphics that I've seen don't look any better than that of many/most XBOX games, and games are overall very very childish in presentation, theme, etc. I'll pass. It's no Halo or similar game, but I'd say it's fun to play over a friend's house for a little while, but I'd get bored realllly quick if I bought one.

I don't know why everyone says it's so boring. I mean, I have a PS3 too, and I usually spend more time playing Madden and Zelda on the Wii then I do playing Resistance (the only really good game out so far for PS3 imo) and Ridge Racer.

The games really are really childish right. I mean I see five year olds playing with games like this all the time Image

and especially this

Atypical? Zelda was the main title for the Wii, and Red Steel was the other biggie. SSB is probably the best fighting game released for any console after N64, nothing even came close to its awesomeness.

Look as I rip a hole in the universe with a childish XBOX 360 game.

Image

This one is from the XBOX, but since the Wii is no better than that obviously, it's still relevant.

And really, what did you expect from Wii sports, you got that game for free, ya really think they're going to spend the time to make it extra fantasmically realistic?

And well, XBOX 360 seems to cause people to lose the ability to spell and speak normally.

you must be on crack because if you look at the games for the 360 and the games coming up for the 360 the wii wont be able to handle it and when the 360 drops $100 when the ps3 & the wii come out think about that the wii no hd no really kick ass games most of the games are for kids i mean tell me how many games did the 64 or the game cube have that really kicked ass . ok on the other hand the 360 has halo 3, gears of war, elder scrolls , madden 2007 in hd, multiple racing games, unrel tournament 2007, mass effect, prey ,huxley i mean i coul;d go on for a while not to say the 360 has the best online service bar none
that when you add the other 150 million pc gamer that will be able to play with 360 users with the new windows vist operating system i think if youre going to wait think total package for $300 or something thats good or average for $225

_____________________________________________

Ok i'm just cureose are you an idiot? If you have played the gamecube and just plain old xbox... will xbox won graphics. Now the xbox 360 beats the crap out of both those consoles in graphics. If you dot think so GET YOUR GOD DANG EYES CHECKED! Had to be said because obveosily your stupid.the xbox 360 beats the nintendo wii big time i just think your jelous.
________________________________________________

the 360 has the hottest kick ass games now and the hottest kick ass game comming nintendo usually caters to the kids 360 is for real gamers that want the best online play and if you wait the 360 will drop in price about the time the ps3 and wii come out so if i were u go to the store look at the game mags check out the game for the systems now and the ones coming up the hardware is way better the wii has no hi def that means the wii will look good but it will only be little better the game cube the 360 has better graphics better game line up and will have more shelf life especially with the online aspect were you can down load old arcade games and new demos for upcoming games so so as far as price there wont be much of a difference and games and hardware will be a big differenc wich mean better gameplay and graphics
____________________________________

have you idiots forgotten about the xbox 360 its just gettin started with gears of war and nxt year halo, and fable, and being priced in the middle seems just right. PS3 too expense ill wait for a price drop and wii it looks intresting ill decide when i go to the nintendo fusion tour. till then later chumps

Need I go on?

The Guys that see Wii is boring Seriously have issues, Like I said before. I have all three systems and I most definately play my Wii and 360 the most, my PS3 sits there, and I am really thinking about selling it. The only thing I use it for is Blue Ray. Xbox 360 is freakin awesome! Don't get me wrong, I can Gears of war all day long! But seriously to play Games like Zelda, Call of Duty 3 and Excite truck on Wii, it's extremely awesome! It may not have the best graphics, but it has so many other features that keeps me away from my PS3, that's all I'm gonna say!

I still haven't tried the Wii, but it is no doubt currently lacking in muiltiplayer. A little of the previous nintendo stuff would get boring a bit easily, or at least now I just don't feel like playing them. The Wii is also lacking in FPS's, the only FPS's they have are single player only, except for Red Steel, which wouldn't make as much of an FPS as it would a swordfighting game.

On the other hand, I haven't really tried the 360 either. (except I finished Halo 2 on it once) But online play as well as their FPS selection is pretty nice. It just lacks the type of stuff only nintendo can make.

For now, I guess I'll have to stick to PC. While LANing isn't as easy as muiltiplayer on consoles (plus there's no lag), each player gets a screen, and online play costs as much as it's supposed to.

Um, this site and the average age (intelligence too) makes people spell incorrectly. Don't blame it on XBOX....horrible argument dude lol.

Seriously, you're choosing outliers to the normal games. I bet if you took the percentage of the different ESRB ratings, XBOX's results would be significantly more skewed toward mature and teen than Wii, with PS3 probably having a distribution similar to XBOX. Guaranteed.

EDIT- Took that liberty. Here are the results...

Wii: 93 ESRB certified games
Everyone: 83.8%
Teen: 11.8%
Mature: 4.3%

XBOX360: 181 ESRB certified games
Everyone: 51.9%
Teen: 27.1%
Mature: 18.2%

Just because games are big like Zelda or Red Steel (which I was VERY underwhelmed with... seemed like a seriously stripped down shooter, boring environments, lacking graphics (even compared to XBOX), and nothing really special other than maybe the sword fighting which I didn't try) doesn't mean they're the norm. The distribution shows exactly what my point was. Yes things like sports are rated everyone almost always, and things like that will throw off the stats, however a lot of the sport games are on all 3 consoles. The differences are so clear that a few games won't disprove my point anyways.

Oh, and most of the Wii screenies I linked to earlier were from the biggest franchises... Mario, Super Smash Bros, and to a lesser extent Rayman and Wii Sports, whereas I've played XBOX and XBOX360 since a little after XBOX came out, and I subscribe to Official Xbox Magazine and Game Informer (all systems) yet I've never seen/heard of(or don't remember seeing/hearing about) the games featured in the two screens you posted. That shows the difference in pertinence between my screens and the new ones you posted. I don't care that you referred to XBOX also, as like you said that was part of my argument, but...what *are* those games?

Rhetorical question, I don't really care lol.

The best console really comes down to personal taste in gaming.

yeah, you can compare and contrast the three on their technical specs, graphics capability, and multi player aspects. But what does it matter if it isn't fun to you, the gamer? This is the first time really when the big system builders built radically different systems. TO argue which is best through its technical specs and graphics is pointless. yeah the 360 and PS3 are similar in many regards but the PS3 has the advantage of HDMI and overall more power for graphics.

I think the Wii is for more than just non "serious" gamers. It provides an escape from the gritty fighting/shooting/intense games that occupy the 360 and PS3. I'm getting to the point where I can get burnt out on some of the more serious games and I just need to play something else thats completely different by nature. My Nintendo Wii is incredibly useful for this.

Didn't the head of gaming at M$ argue a point similar to this by saying he would be perfectly fine with people buying a 360 and a Wii so they could have a wider variety of gaming rather then just getting a PS3.

I'll stick with my PC for my "serious" gaming and my Wii for when I don't want my games to be serious.

Yeah that one guy did say that about what he called the "XBOX Wii60" I think. Then the president of Nintendo was like, "I can't endorse someone buying an XBOX360 along with their Wii" haha. Pretty funny exchange there. Pretty sure MS didn't care much because the intent as I see it was to kill the PS3, who they deemed was their biggest competition at the time.
