actually a certain challenge to our separation of church and state took place in 1954, and now school children ar required to pledge alleigence to god and their country.. i'm not one of these people who run around screaming like my hair is on fire about it though.. my personal opinion is that evangelical christianity as viewed today in america is largely represented by a conservative and nationalistic version that surfaced mid century as a reaction to the "threat" of communism. it didn't take long for people to see this happening and react to it, but i doubt if they will ever be taken seriously by the establishment. cultures that did not have access to the bible's 'ten commandments" also have laws against stealing and murder.
back to the subject though .. as far as i can recall the apostle peter had a dream, one in which he was offered a big net full of some of the things that god had told the children of isreal were unclean, and was told that the christ had come to make these old laws void. it doesn't mention homosexuality here, but is it possible ...simply possible, that this also was included?

Biggest bump EVAR FTW!

Seriously though, it's well, really obvious that I accept it.

The Bible in my opinion, is what the people that wrote it THINK they saw, heard, and experienced. When a person is in distress or frightened, or even unsure if their surroundings are a reality, they are not fully aware of what is happening; it's the same reason that eye witnesses are the least reliable source of information for police.

I believe that a lot of the bible's teachings are fantastic sources of information, but sometimes I can't help my self to think: What kind of God would be so biased as to exclude people from his gift of eternal life that have done nothing wrong apart from something that they feel they cannot change? You can say as much as you want that it is possible to change yourself from being a homosexual, but seriously, you're not in our shoes, so you cannot make an assumption by which you have no evidence except something written by man hundreds of years ago.

My opinion, now don't kill me.

I could rant for days about my opinion on this, but I'll keep it short and simple.

Gay people should be allowed to marry, however, some religons prohibit that, so then they should be married outside of that religon. So they are either married in a religon that accepts that, or in law. Law and Religon should be seperate. Being gay is not wrong. Hating people because they are gay is wrong.

A proper Christian, would follow the teaching of the Bible.
And if anyone has ever read it. They would have come across Leviticus 18.
Thats all im going to say on this subject.

What is this topic even here for?? As people have said this site is for coasters!!

I am Bi-Sexual and I will marry who ever I see fit!!

Religion is the cause of most troubles in the world!!

In conclusion, I think that 2 men or women who love each other and want to get married and have a life together, is not high on the priorty list compared to some other things that happen in this world!!

END OF!!!!

Religion ISNT the cause of most troubles. Its certain asects that may or may not have infiltrated into certain religious groups. The cause of troubles such as this is the vast diversity of people in the world, the differen beliefs, and the different people. When one group tries t push their beliefs on another, this is when we get our problems. Its not religion that causes problems, its the people who "follow" it but dont actually understand other people have a right to their own beliefs aswell.

=] Im sure everyone knows my opinion on the matter. I dont believe in same sex marriage in a church, even though im gay. BUT i believe in civil partnership TOTALLY! =]

There's really not much abuot this "separation of church and state" in the constitution. From my understanding of it, it simply states that a law will not be passed in support of one religion or against one religion. It's all or nothing.

Wow, how did this topic get re-ignited?

I read about half of it and got bored. What is the present situation of gay marriages in the USA?

I'm 17 and i've known i was gay since i was about 11 and have never had any interest in girls, some views in this topic have been pretty strong and sometimes hard to read. What shocks me most is that people who know so little about a subject can have such strong opinions. My opinion is that in the UK i think we have the gay marriage situation correct in that we have "civil partnerships" which other people like JPE have talked about. I feel that "civil partnerships" are the way forward because it doesn't go against religion because it takes religion out of the equation, all it does is give gay people the rights that married people have and it gives gay people the opportunity to show their love for each other. I strongly respect all forms of religion and would not want to offend anyone religious, that is why i think that "civil partnerships" are so much better than stamping on the word "marriage" which insinuates man and woman.

I don't know if i will ever want to have a civil partnership with a man later in life, but i feel much better knowing i have the option and hopefully it will not offend religious people in the process.

Alton, words of a wise person!

Some of these opinions are very hard to read. If you're not gay, you know nothing about being gay, and you can't make any assumptions about us!

I have mostly Christian beliefs, and I believe in Jesus and God, and you have NO idea how much it hurts that I'm considered an abomination by someone that I gave my life to. You have no idea how much it hurts not being able to go out in public and be who you are because you're too scared of what could happen to you. And you have no idea how much it hurts to be inside a church on Christmas morning knowing how out of place you are, and that the people you're corresponding with would hate you if they knew anything about you.

It's not easy. Tolerance is a virtue.

Gay marriage. Hm, personally I support any gay rights granted by government, as I am a gay citizen and want the best for people who, clearly did nothing to anyone. So the majority of population does not want us to have the same right to marry as them? What if we made homosexuality the preferred orientation. How would they feel if we told them "No Straight Marriages, being straight is weird!"...
