You can't really compare that type of drop with drops featured on BB...BB's drops are vertical radii segments with curves thrown into them.

This coaster looks sweet.
Trim breaks are your enemy, retracking/smoothing is your friend. I miss b&m floored sit downs. coaster count=39

hyyyper - Those drops arent that up and down. Trust me. Ive been on two or three of their rides with those steep swooping drops and they just dont give the same steepness feeling that the straighter drops do. Plus, its somewhat of an illusion.

Every other drop though on Troy is fairly standard GCI - which is fine by me, their rides rock. But they try to stay as far away from steep straight drops as possible - its their motto.

Do a comparison using the model + animation and compare to Troy. There are at least 2 or 3 places where BB comes over a hill and dives pretty steep.

Lately however, and I love this, TGG rides are featuring wicked twists and turns normally characteristic of GCI while maintaining the straight, steep drops with loads of airtime. Theyve almost taken the best of both worlds and then what you get is what theyve put out.

GCI on the other hand has started to add some solo hills in their later designs but still hold true to their motto that twists and turns are better than drops.

But their twisting drops are more of an illusion. Id say the degree of steepness is more around 55 when you cut out the banking and the turning.

Thats probably one of their steepest to date and that looks to be in the 60 range. But notice, the drop degrees are never that severe and to play with their motto they NEVER release angles for anything. Ive never seen them actually officially say this drop is 60 degrees or etc. Always the number of crossovers, turns and some special aspect of the ride.

Real, by looking at this angle, I don't even think it gets near 60*:

To me, Boardwalk Bullet is a more agressive GCI. That makes it th eperfect coaster IMO.

It has large drops, quick drops, amazing airtime, speed (pacing), quick transitions, hill transitons, tunnels, it's compact (which leads to headchoppers) etc.

There's nothing for me to complain about.

Oh yeah, Jason's update includes a cool pic that shows how the curve under the station just barely squeezes in there:

Well, I'm not saying TGG makes bad rides or somethings, and their designs aren't really comparable with GCI, but if you look here http://www.rcdb.com/m/ig3757.htm?picture=2, I see the first drop and the up and down from the center turn. The rest is all turns and airtime. Which isn't bad, and they had little space available. But still, some more hills, or even high turns would have been nice

The original argument is that Troy has steeper angles - which it most likly doesnt.

But you said it all - tight space. You just cant fit more than a couple nice sized hills in a space the size of an acre!

^nah the argument was that it lacked steep parts. it does have some, but not that much. And i wasn't comparing it to Troy, i just said that Troy is well, close to me, and that i should be complaining about some coaster in texas [:D]

aaaanyways, i think we should make it into a contest, build a 3000feet woodie in a small area

Wow, I'm so lazy. I look at all of the BB updates every Sunday but never post them here :P. But the ride looks crazy, and queue is insane. I love the track next to it and under it!

BTW, in an email the GM of Kemah told me he expects the ride to open at the very end of July (we've had a ton of rain here) and that there will be POV footage on Kemah's site when the ride opens.

I can't wait for your trip report Jakizle, just don't forget to post it here. [:P]

That first drop diving into the structure is going to be insane!

It is our hopes to ride this next year for sure on a visit to Texas to see family. Certainly looks like a thrilling coaster.

It's looking like the ride will open this weekend...just about all of the railings are installed on the track, merchandise is being sold, the queue line and entrance are complete, the trains are on track, and water dummies are on site.

Hopefully I can go next Sunday!

A few of the billboards around town this morning had been changed to "Coaster Now Open!!!"

I freaked out, made some calls, and discovered that NO, the coaster is not yet open. Pics on coasterphotos.com show that much of the first drop still has no steel on the track.

Seems that the billboard companies were contracted to change the signs on a certain date (set before all this rain hit) and they changed them.

I'd be amazed if they got it finished, tested, inspected, and opened by this weekend. The weekend AFTER that is probably closer to reality.

....and I'm on a week's vacation with nothing else to do beginning Aug 11. WOO HOO!!!

Jason @ Coasterphotos said that he was told steel would be completed by yesturday, and that testing WILL start this week after the ride is inspected.

A week from Sunday will most likely be my visit!

I talked with the business office today and was told "two weeks". That puts the opening date somewhere in the neighborhood of Aug 11... which happens to be the first day of a week's vacation for me!

I should be in San Antonio around November timeframe -- if there is a way to get down there, I will be going (provided it is still in operation at that time) ...

The boardwalk is open year-round, and I expect the coaster will be, too, except for maintenance downtime and/or retracking.
